Grass ( Almost done )

Grass ( Almost done ) Just wanted to take a moment and share the picture of our grass. The only thing left to finish is adding it to the tonemapping process as well as the HDR Lighting. When this is in place we will have some nice grass at a relative low cost.

Do not mind the black box on the left, that is there for volumetric rendering testing! :P Which will be our cloud system we plan to debut shortly.



Got the lighting to work, now we need to fix the normals.

Let the normals point upwards, that will lead to equally lit grass regardless where the grass surfaces are pointing at.

We fixed it!!




We have most of this figured out, now we have another issue to deal with but I will be making a post about that. Thank you bro





so, how does it look from above? are you happy with the results now? i've been following your grass threads, and it seens that this was really difficult...


anyway, from the set you posted, the one-picture-to-rule-them-all for me is the wasteland on the 4º picture (it looks like a wasteland at least =p)

I like the First Night image. The grass is very cool in that picture, with almost a plains feel. I think going with little patches out growing the flat parts gives a a lot of depth for a low cost. 

Certainly, i have not setup the actual night lighting yet. So i have 3 different settings one with a hardcore night ( pitch black ) one with a semi lighted night, and one with the Skyrim lighting ( which is the one you liked ). We should have our skybox in today and with that we will have a very nice looking setup. I would argue our game doesnt look like an alpha but rather polished. Most of the textures are just basic though so I will have to go through and redo most of those with normals and speculars.






So those are the different sky lightings, there is no shadow on it as of yet and I am not sure I want one. I kinda like how it blends in... but we shall see

Are the above images more "zoomed" out then normal? I ask because I like the idea that the "extra grass" effect disappears as you scale away from the ground. Kind of like a bird's eye view. If not it is still amazing. Way better then an a standard alpha.

This is very much a zoomed out. As you zoom out further the grass will fade out.

Very nice! I wish I could be working on my game. Part of the reason I have not posted anything in awhile. However, you inspire me to clear more time for it.

Keep in mind that most of the terrain textures are placeholders... but this gives you a more detailed view of what it looks like.

Thank you. We still have some issues with it but will resolve those shortly.
