Here are your Journal Land entries from the period of 10/14 - 10/21

Welcome, new Journal Land scribes rwilson1982 and Lyost!

From the Staff

  • GameDev.net Staff Journal - site engineer Michael Tanczos talks about the changes he's made to the news stream to take into account more metrics to choose stories that would better fit our audience. He also gives a preview of the new redesigned front page - which is the biggest departure from our original design since the website launched in 1999! We are hoping it's for the better. I will be following up next week with more info on the new menu layout you see in the front page preview image.

Project Updates

  • StarDust DevLog - KaRei talks about his viewport and camera functionality in the StarDust engine and shows some sample code using the viewport system to create a split-screen for 2 players.
  • Pixel ? Tile ? World logo+%20bullet.png - Servant of the Lord has gone full-time indie! Congrats and good luck to him. He talks about progress made with AdventureFar - now due to receive a lot more attention in the coming months.
  • Jemgine - along with a new build of DeyjaScript available for download, Deyja talks about how he's now actually integrating it (successfully - congrats) into the game project he put on hold to develop it for.
  • LightSource Team's Journal - tomsoftmedia announces his team needs help with their Counter-Strike: Source full mod project Advanced Assault. Details are scarce, but inquire within.
  • kseh's blog - kseh has a new version of Noter available to download. Not strictly game-dev related but can certainly be applied towards it. It's described as "a wiki style desktop application (with no server required) for personal use".
  • Walking Towards The Sun - some new videos of freeworld's ecosim program at work as he starts implementing water simulation, getting it to flow over the height map properly

Game Dev Stuffs

  • New Old Things - Endurion's latest step in building a Commodore 64 game involves adding a new enemy - a bat that disappears when you shoot it - only to reappear once again to bug you. Vampires!
  • __Homer__'s Journal - __Homer__ briefly describes a method of infinite shadow-casting lights in a 3D scene. I'm sure et1337 isn't the only one a bit skeptically curious about hearing more details on this

Other Stuffs

  • SteelGolem's Journal - SteelGolem is currently hooked on the indie casual rougelike Legends of Yore and recommends it.
  • Necron00bicon - anyone looking for a software engineer in the Boston MA area? Drop jjd a line. And thanks for the kind words, jjd - I'm glad GDNet continues to be a valuable resource for you. Welcome back!

Thanks for stopping by Zethariel, puz
