The Bag of Holding

So today I dragged my sorry butt out of bed at the unholy hour of 8:45 AM. At 9, our meeting started, and it ran for over 3 hours. Virtually all of the issues that directly concern me (at least for the immediate future) were hammered out, which is good.

The topic of discussion today is a very hefty system that will, among other things, automatically...

Blargh. BLARGH I SAY!

There's too much stuff in my brain. I want to get some of it out. Sadly, I am not aware of a way to separate brain-stuff from actual brains; this means that, should I want to get brain-stuff out of my head, I would be required to also remove brains themselves. I am not particularly attracted to the idea of being separated from my brains. They do nice things...

Blah, blah, blah GINGER. Blah blah.

Just a quick dump of thoughts here before I stumble off.

If you haven't already, check out the Pragmatic Programming Language for the Future discussion going on in the Software Engineering forum. There's some absolutely excellent feedback coming together from this thing, and I think that with some real effort, we might actually have a winner on...

It's aliiive!

Wow, that generated substantially more (and more positive) response than I had expected. I guess it shouldn't come as much of a shock to me that others are feeling the need for a better toolkit, but I would have expected at least some backlash against the heavy-handed pragmatism [grin]

Yes, there's a real risk here of hitting "linguistic bloat" and trying...

Linguistic Wishlist

I'm really starting to get interested in the notion of building a new programming language. Every language I've ever used has had some really glaring shortcomings and problems, even aside from the normal quirks and personality flakiness that any language is going to have as a matter of course.

Now, I have no formal training in PL theory. Some people might...

A Day in the Life

I've been wanting to do this for quite some time, but just never really got to it. My last attempt didn't turn out so well as a journal entry, but did very nicely at helping me track my own work habits. So I'm going to give it another shot.

I stumble over to my cell phone and turn off the extremely annoying alarm. This is the fourth time it's...

Assorted Thoughts

It's difficult to admit, but at the moment, the thought that weighs most heavily on my mind is that johnhattan needs to hurry the hell up and release a full version of ConFusebox. I am sickeningly, utterly addicted to that game, in a way that I've never felt drawn to a spin-the-pipes puzzle before. I almost feel dirty... but then I realize that this...

Whee, hornet's nests are fun!

Apparently, I've touched on a rather controversial nerve. Not unexpected, really - piracy and anti-piracy is a very hot debate, and will likely continue to be so for quite some time.

Given a few days to re-gather my own thoughts, and consider some of the great comments from my last rant, I've decided that I'm not done yet. It's not so much that I have...

And now, back to your regularly scheduled ranting.

For those who are getting linked here from who knows where - please read the follow-up post after this one. It makes things much more clear I think.

I've been reading up on the StarForce/Galactic Civilization II scandal this afternoon. I find the whole thing disgusting on several fronts. First and foremost, what StarForce did is obviously...

Gives us the happy juice!

I'm officially addicted to this.

Today I've moved up from a single quad to a vertex buffer and index buffer, generating a flat mesh of several quads. The idea is to eventually turn this into a heightmapping system of sorts. Step one of course is to actually generate the mesh data.

I got the mesh generation working pretty quickly with the help of...
