A gentle intro to Epoch

Posted by ApochPiQ, 15 February 2010 · 137 views

I sliced out a chunk of time today to write up a new introduction to programming in the Epoch language. It doesn't cover much yet, but it should be enough to help figure out the rest of the good stuff via the examples.

Next time I'm bored (and the whim to write strikes me) I'll supplement that article with one on the more interesting features of Epoch, ranging from structures to threading to language extension libraries. Hopefully that'll allay some of the "oh noes wall of unrecognizable code" problems that have plagued the project up to now.

So read it. Read it now. Read it twice. Then comment on it, here, there, or anywhere. Share it with your friends and colleagues. Make them comment on it. I demand your feedback... and if you refuse my demands, I will arrive at your house in the dead of night and beat you to within an inch of your life with a rubber balloon.

Very helpful, thanks. This kind of write up is all I needed to push myself into toying around with it (as I pretend to have more time than I really have.)

Downloaded and will post back if I:
(a) make something cool.
or
(b) make something explode.
The lack of + or even . as string concatenation make me... some strange mixture of confused, angry, and nauseated.

That said, it's a pretty fine guide to the language, but provides no instruction as to actually building the example.

D'oh, what a moronic oversight on my part... I've updated the page with compilation instructions.
