Brace yourselves

Everyone pretend this blog didn't die for six months, okay? Okay. Here's a brain-dump of random things I've learned while not blogging.
  • Distributed programming is tough but really, really fun.
  • gevent, Couchbase, Fabric, and pyzmq are awesome.
  • Django's admin interface can be twisted fairly easily into a CMS for a dynamic website.
  • Bed bugs + week-long power outage + another week with still-broken A/C = fun summer.
  • Leaky washing machine + computer in basement directly beneath = new computer.
  • A bike is the best thing ever when you're in college.
  • Spotify is the best thing ever regardless of time or space.
  • Batman was eh.
  • Bourne was great.
  • Game of Thrones, holy crap! Both the books and TV show. Amazing.
  • Buy a Mosin-Nagant. Best $100 you'll ever spend.
  • Girls, how do they work?
  • Writing HTML5 games is a thing which I can do.
  • Don't submit your cover design contest entry a month early, they might totally forget you.
  • Tribes is fun and free.
  • Battlefield 3 added Counterstrike's gun-game mode. Best ever.
  • In December, Lord willing I'll be graduated, living in a new apartment, working full-time for an iPhone game studio. Holy crap.

Life's been busy, but this last semester is pretty easy, so I've had lots of time to work on Lemma. No time to talk about it now, but keep an eye out for a juicy trailer / alpha download soon. For now, I'll just tease you with this!

Thanks for bearing with me people. You guys rock.

Was talking about Lemma to someone just this week when discussing cool game design.

Sorry about AC and, washing machine, and bed bugs.
Re: the AC, did you make sure the filter is put in the right direction? It completely chokes the flow of cold air if you put it in backwards. For that matter, have you checked if the filter needs to be replaced ('bought twice a year or the electrical costs get pretty high from overexerting itself)? Did you hose down the external mesh covering? (Kill the power supply first (!) using the local AC cutoff). An hour's hacking can save you the cost of a repairman coming out. Ofcourse, it's hard to test things if the power's out...

And it took me five minutes before I just now realized: I get to shoot stuff in Lemma and not just kick things! Excellent! Do I get to use that Russian rifle you promoted?

Hah! What are the odds.

Re: the AC... [useful info]...

Funny thing is, it still actually was a fun summer! :) We did get the AC fixed eventually, fortunately the landlord covered the repair cost. It was just blowing hot air. He had to come out three times before it worked though. Not sure exactly what the problem was.

I'm excited about the gun. The ammo will be fairly limited (more of a survival situation) and it won't be very effective, just destroying one block per bullet. But I'm planning on adding a special explosive block that should make things interesting. So far there's only the pistol, but I do want to add other weapons. A Mosin with a high-power scope would be a ton of fun.
