Project Updates

  • Rock, Paper, Glue - zarfius adds some new features to Glue and works up a quick asteroid game in 6 hours. He also talks about how people find value in a product and what he thinks people see is worth using in Glue
  • StarDust DevLog - KaRei provides details on how he's worked his galaxy arms to provide for more up close detail, with a video as well. He then decides he needs a better way to generate the arms and works on a detection algorithm for full-color source images (instead of B&W)
  • Calculemus's Journal - calculemus1988 has a new game you can download and try, built from the book XNA 4.0 Game Development by Example. He has also compiled and made available the result from one of the projects in Programming Game AI by Example
  • Once a Bird - Demosthenes chooses between two options for the shooting controls in Graveyard Shift - the "Geometry Wars way" and the "sort-of-FPS way". He gives a bit detail for both before explaining why he chose the latter
  • OddGames development journal Posted Image - O-san is struggling with how he wants to lay out the story of his game, whether it will be integral and drive the game itself or just a backdrop with which to set the game in. Stream of consciousness results
  • Development of Vegetables at War - SuperMaximo93 continues his weekly updates on his project Vegetables at War, with some new screenshots and details on AI, collisions and physics

Game Dev Stuffs

  • LoreHunter's Journal - LoreHunter wraps up a week of game development with some sage advice, including why you should show your work publicly as soon as possible and how he keeps track of the mistakes and failures of others so he doesn't make them himself
  • Yckx's GameDev Journal - yckx has created an entity system and as he goes back over it to refactor and refine he'd like the rest of the community to help him pick apart the code he's posted on his journal. Have at it, ye masses!
  • New Old Things - Endurion continues to put one foot in front of the other in creating his Commodore 64 game. These last few steps include reloading, giving purpose to item collection, a title screen, and high score table
  • XXChester's Blog - XXChester has an update to the generic object translator he posted about a while ago which includes a refined version of the code that's easy to use and modify
  • The Bag of Holding - ApochPiQ returns with another opinion piece that digs deep into his experience as coder and results in how to "Become a Good Programmer in Six Really Hard Steps"
  • IfThen Software LLC - InvisibleMan is back to more regular journal updates - some of the highlights include answers he had to questions about instruction issue buffers, and data hazards that result from renaming registers.
