 Nights |
Posted - 6/29/2005 4:44:07 AM | Yay! I have finally managed to work out some commitment on my end to my projects for the first time in a while. I've spent the better part of the last few days working on my freelance site, C Plus Solutions, which will be up in the next couple of days. I'm almost finished with it. This is the first website that I haven't coded entirely by hand. I used front page to make it, and I must say once I figured the IDE out, it was a hell of a lot faster then coding html by hand. I have worked with it in the past, but never for my own sites.
I'm getting ready to work on C.F.L. some more right now, and I though I would take a minute or two to add a journal entry. I managed to finally see batman after two weeks of failed attempts. I must say that it was really a great movie. Probably the best I've seen this year. Also the best Batman since Keton.(spelling?) I hope that they do make a sequal, which is strange because I'm usualy tired of regurgitated ideas. At any rate, C.F.L. here I come.

 Time Flys |
Posted - 6/25/2005 4:44:50 PM | I haven't really had much time for developement this week. I'm currently concentrating on refining a public image for myself to do some freelancing once again. This is something that I've done in the past and have been somewhat successful at. Currently, I work around thirty hours a week at the restaurant that I employeed at. I figure that if I concentrate enough on freelancing, I can eventually recieve my base income from it, which in turn will allow me to spend more time concentrating on working on what it is I really want to, games.
I know for this I have to start small and build up a strong client base as looking for work has been the most time consuming step in freelancing, in the past. I hope to have atleast five steady clients within a six month period, but that may be a little much. I'll have to see how things develope. Well, I'm off to my day job in a few.

 I'm Back |
Posted - 6/21/2005 11:29:11 PM | Well, I ended up taking a weeks vacation, spent the last week hanging out with some friends, and traveled around and helped a few of my friends with some shows they were playing. All in all a rather unproductive and relaxing week. It was just what I needed. Now refreshed and back, it's back to work.

 Powerless |
Posted - 6/13/2005 2:59:46 AM | I live in Iowa. We have constant snow storms, blizzards, harsh winds and these happen all the time. We get one thunderstorm, and our power goes out. In the face of all the aforementioned adversity, it seems that we can keep power. Then a single thunderstorm comes a long, and it takes the power company six hours to get the power back up. That makes a lot of sense to me, but then again I'm just a little annoyed, as sitting in dark beside my computer, praying for power, seems less then productive. I'm just glad it finally came back on, and I wonder what I would do with myself if a power crisis were to arise.
I spent most yesterday sleeping oddly enough. I was sick with some sort of 24 hour bug. I went back to work on content for C.F.L. still a ways off from the next release.

Posted - 6/10/2005 4:51:13 AM | Eah, heh, sounds like a cool title anyway. I'm still hard at work on my next release of C.F.L. It has my full attention at the moment, besides work that is. I can't wait to get this release finished so that I can move on too working on Phoenix and Myrrh, as that is the what I plan to use for the 4E comp. I've actually managed to stay focused longer then two days for a change, which is great. I know it will continue as well.
Within the next year I'd really like to start setting money a side to begin a more professional venture into the Independent Game Development world. It's something that I've wanted to do ever since I was a we lad. If anyone out there has any advice for an upstart, I'd love to hear it, if not that's cool too, as I might not listen to your advice anyway ;).
I guess not really much else to say, I'm cleaning up my code, finishing components, and cleaning up my text interfaces to look more like a game. I've also been thinkiing about adding more ascii art to my game, but I'm not really that great at it, and I don't know a lot of people who are still into it. If you or anyone you know out there has an interest in that sort of thing, and they'd be interested in submitting some art for a text game, please, let me know.

 Progress |
Posted - 6/9/2005 2:22:47 AM | Well, I've spent six of the last twelve hours working on C.F.L. and have managed to get some progress made. I finished a new title screen, as well as got a hudge chunk of my battle system out of the way. There is still a lot to do before my next release, version 0.5.
I have to finish this game release before I begin workin on my four elements submission as well, which gives me even more reason to push myself to get as much done as possible. I'm going to continue to work on C.F.L. until the sun comes up today, at which time I'll go to sleep, only to wake up, then go to work. I can't until the day when I can spend my time working on games and making money at it. Even if that day never comes, I'll still continue to work on games, with as much gusta as I can musta, or so says Patrick Swayze in Donnie Darko.

 Decapitation |
Posted - 6/8/2005 6:20:44 PM | So much for the daily journal entrys so far. Let me see if I can't improve that from here on out. I've been pretty busy at work lately and have found myself being a little tired once I get home, hence the lack of entries.
I was looking into getting a motorcylce, but I was having trouble finding any statistics on decapitation rate. I know of atleast two people in my life time that have died this way, and was hoping to find some sort of national statistic. I may just get one anyway however.
Thanks to everyone for the hudge response on the C.F.L. riddles. I recieved a whole negative 30 riddles :P. Because of work I'm just now sitting down to finish that part up.

 Long Weekend |
Posted - 6/6/2005 3:59:15 PM | I had an otherwise long weekend. Nice to see a new four elements contest. I'll definately be entering. Work, work work, that's what I'm doing the most of. Well, got to get ready for work.

 A little help? |
Posted - 6/2/2005 3:03:57 AM | The battle system in C.F.L. is a little unconventional. For the text game, when I designed the system last year, the way the battles work is this.
1.An enemy is generated based on location and a pseudo-random generated number.
2. Number of turns for the battle is generated pseudo-randomly with a maximum of turns being 20.
3. A trivia question is selected out of a pool of 500 Trivia Questions and riddles.
4. Based upon the answer select a correct or incorrect response that gives a description of the enemy the player is battling. This out of 50 correct descriptions, and fifty incorrect descriptions out of a total of forty enemies.
5. Iterate this process until the number of questions is equal to zero.
6. If the number of questions answered correctly is greater then the number of questions answered wrong, the player wins the battel and is awarded to reputation points. Otherwise the player loses two reputation points.
Battles can only occur in certain areas and locations in the game, and there is only a seven percent chance that they will occur each turn in those locations.
Anyways, I'm needing to finish the trivia and riddle questions for this section of the game, and am wondering if anyone else out there has a moment to spare a trivia question or riddle for the selection pool. Here are the categories, I will be working on this for the next three days, hopefully a bit shorter.
50 star wars trivia questions - I have 20 of these
50 Video Game Questions
50 TV Questions
50 Book Questions
50 World History Questions
50 Movie Questions
50 Music Questions
50 Various Questions
100 Riddles
I'm not really looking for a lot of help necessarily, but if someone's got something that they'd like to share, it would help narrow down the somewhat mosterous pool of questions that was initially two times the size. Thanks in advanced to anyone who decides to help out with this.

The week that time stood still.. eh development th |
Posted - 6/1/2005 1:51:12 PM | Well, it's been a while sense my last entry. Unfortuantely for me, the current trend seems to be a lack of focus in the development portion of my life, which is where I would like my of my effort to be spent. I suppose other things in life occassionaly demand attention however. You can trade in your family for a nice laptop, but laptops aren't as entertaining, in the long run.
Alright, well I'm finally getting back to work on C.F.L. today. I've redrawn my world maps and am fleshing out some other areas as well. I'm having some confilcts with procedural world creation and dynamic gameplay as well, but seeing as my content creation is on hold at the moment as I'm finetuning my underlying systems, concentrating on that issue isn't really a hudge priority at the moment.
My main personal theme is focus. Pulling the old head out of the rectum and getting moving a long a path to achieve some results. My day jobs going pretty well, or should I say my night job, as I am soon to be promoted within a week and a half now, and given two raises by the end of the month. Sadly, I'm not sure if that's going to be enough to keep me around however, as our store is falling apart under new general managment, and I tend to suffer from high stress at work now, which shouldn't be the case, seeing as nothing in the store has changed, except for the managment. It does seem to have caused a lot of problems though. More then likely I'll stay on however and possibly try and make some positive changes for the business experience and to further build up a solid work reference.
As part of my focus theme, I will be entering daily updates on my development. As soon as my next release of C.F.L. is ready I will also be going back to focus on Phoenix and Myrrh for a while. So stay tuned for daily updates.
