Well, a week and a half later, I got the job. I start tomorrow and this is the most excited I've ever been about a job.

Well, it's been a while since I put anything in this journal. I really haven't had much to record lately I suppose. The charter job that I went for seems to be taking a vacation from hiring anyone. I've attempted repeatidly to contact the vice president, whom is the one in charge of hiring, and to no avail. No reply what so ever. I even mentioned that if I didn't get the position, that I would just be satisfied with a follow up phone interview. That seemed to get me no where as well. So, I am currently out of work, and am putting off getting a job for a couple of weeks to see if I can find one that is more suiting for my current situation. I haven't been freelancing at all either. To be honest, I've been selling xboxes and that's about it, which is fine for the time being, but I realize that I need a more steady base of income comming. Preferablly one that the IRS can keep track of so they know I'm paying my taxes.

Conquest For Love has suffered in development durring this time. I have not been around a computer in a week, and it's actually been kind of nice. This comming week it is time for full fledge assualt on finishing up the task list I was supposed to have completed almost two weeks ago.

So, to sum it all up, this last week has been spent talking and reflecting with various people on a path. It seems that there are a lot of people out there lost of all ages and such. I personally have goals, but it's more so the means to attain those goals that I have to concentrate on working on. In that respect, I find myself lost as well.

An ODE to Guinness :

Rich, thick, creamy, smooth, coat my sorrow and my mood.
Splendid, tastey, lots of fun, you know you are the only one.
Too much seems like not enough, drink it down inside the pub.

Remember you, I will, when you are gone, with my last two dollars plus forty more blown. Oh where oh where could my last Guinness be, wait, oh yeah.. I've got to pee.

The interview went well. I was told that they will probably hire me, but they still have a couple of interviews left to do. So, now, I sit here and wait, and go back to working on some M.F.C. fundementals, and working on C.F.L. .

I am going for a job interview in roughly an hour. The job is with a moderately sized charter company. If I get the job, I will be making just a dollar an hour under two times my current pay rate at my current job. This of course will be ideal and will help move DecipherOne Productions from my basement, into an actual office. It would also allow me to do some part time hiring of other programmers to help out with various aspects of certain projects, as well as artist, which more then likely I'd spend most of the money on artists.

I haven't been nervous, but as time draws near, I'm getting more and more anxious. There are only two other people being interviewed for this position, so the chances are decent that I can get this job. I'm excited, and I'll let everyone know how it went later.

I've been wanting to move out of state for sometime to an area that has a more established game developement community. I still would like to move out of state for a change of scenery and to be in a more established area, but in the mean time, I decided to go a head and set up a GDNet Gathering Group for central Iowa in hopes to build a community in the area while I'm still here. Hell if things go well enough, it maybe enough incintive to keep me around.

I'm going to spend sometime going over some M.F.C. today, as well as work on C.F.L. . I also decided to look for a new job as the one I've been at for the last seven months pays very poorly and I would like a new start in a field unrelated to the food industry. I'm waiting to hear back from a few places, and will also apply at some other places today as well.

Alright, well after a slightly elongated absence from my computer for two days, I finally return. I went to go deliver one of the xbox's that I sold to a friend of mine, and ended up being stranded at his house for two days. Luckily I didn't have to work, but I ended up wasting what I was hoping to be two rather productive days off from work. Neverless, still time to move foward.

My bank sucks major monkey testicles. I deposited cash into my bank account. Three hours later I go to make a withdraw from an atm. The money, even though in my account, for some reason that the bank can't seem to explain, and refuses to look into, didn't register into my account until the next day.

I took out twenty dollars to see a movie. There was an agreed two dollar fee that I authorized to get my money out of the atm as it wasn't owned by my bank. Evidentally the mall the atm was at also charged an additional 1.50 to use the atm in their mall. There were no signs to tell me this. Then, they charged me an additional 9 cents as a sales tax charge seperately. Normally, I wouldn't really care, but in this case, because the money I deposited didn't show up until the following day I over drew my account. Now, here's the worst part, for each over draft I get charged $37. SO the $22, the $1.50, and the $0.09 all were charged seperately. THis was only one transaction for me, but they charged me three different times. This means I am out $111 all for trying to access money that I had given to a teller, and they had put it in my account. To top it off, I don't get paid until Thursday, and there are two checks out there for a total of $30 out in circulation. My account is going to end up being charged about $185 total for this if those checks get cashed, plus they can charge me additonal overdraft charges, if I don't have enough money in my account to cover the over draft charges, which they charge right away.

If I would have known that this was going to happen, I would have just kept twenty dollars on me instead of depositing the full amount. What a crock of shit. It's times like this I despise banks, and if not for the "convience" factor of having a debit card so that I can order stuff online, I would close that account right now. They should have a seminar to go over all this stuff with new clients when someone opens an account. Oh, I've been with this bank for six months, and I've never had this happen before.

I still haven't finished my previous task list for C.F.L. and need to be getting back to it. Instead I spent about five hours playing GTA SA when I got home.

I've been trying to get rid of 2 xboxes for the past month. I finally got rid of them both in the same day today. I also skipped my 3 hour shift at work, but I made almost four hundred dollars.

I forgot to mention this in my journal, and I'll have to put a post on the news section of the site as well. Andrew Stern and Michael Mateas's one act Interactive Drama was released publicly on July 5th. You can download it at www.interactivestory.net

The theory of the system is one that inspired me long ago. The actual implementation of the system was one that I found interesting, but I was a little disapointed as it seemed that the system was just linear, but with a set of different responses, that were pretty much the same in the actual message, but just handled slightly different. I was able to get a few really unique responses out of the system however, although doing so ultimately resulted in the same response of me being kicked out of Trip and Grace's apartment. If you haven't already, check it out. You can also download it directly from www.gamespot.com

instead of using the bit torrent download.

Every once in a while I get bored, or get a wild hair, or just wonder maybe how things once were, on the internet that is. When I do, I usually head over to www.archive.org There you can look back many years into the past. For example take this link

A Day in the past of GameDev.net
This page is from 2001, and links to every thing that was on the site(s) at that point in time. Some crazy stuff.

Oh, and the whole sleep thing didn't work out. I guess I'm just a night owl for better or worse. At any rate, I'm currently driving myself crazy creating content for C.F.L. Only a few hundred more questions to write tonight.

Also, in taking a break from content creation, I've been attempting to come up with an idea for the 4E comp. I'm also wondering how many submissions are going to have a focus on visual content vs gameplay. It should be interesting to see. Oh and Extremely Sharp Swords and Knives is an awesome store. Even if I don't place in the contest, I think I'll be making a purchase or two from those guys in the coming months.

Going to try a different sleep schedule for the rest of the week. I'm going to try and go to sleep at night instead of six or seven in the morning. I'll have to see if my previous thoughts of working durring the night really does eliminate from the amount of distractions. I'm going to go to sleep now. yEah

Nothing really exciting happening. I'm still working on finishing the task list for C.F.L. which, I have quite a bit to do still. Mostly finishing content for the underlying systems. Kind of a slow day. I've been looking at some flash stuff today too. Not much else going on really. Going to go eat some food with my folks. Later.

I am so angry with myself for missing an entry yesterday. I wanted to have a steady line of entries this month, everyday. I suppose seeing as I didn't do any development yesterday though, it would be only fitting that I didn't add entry. Instead, I finally restrung my accoustic for the first time since I bought it last may. It sounds so much better, it's like playing a different guitair. I also ended up drinking a few beers, and hanging out with some friends whom I really don't get to see that much. Over all it was a good time. It will also be one of the few times that I will be going out for a while as I have a hell of a lot of work to do.

I have to take a shower and rinse the stench of pasta and marinaria sauce from my skin and then get to work. That brings up a good point. I don't know how often people come into my work and order spagetti with red sauce, or they mis pronounce the word marinaria. A lot of the time it's people who are in their thirties or older. What the hell is wrong with these people? I'm sure that they've atleast heard of marinaria sauce before. It's just one of those great mysteries I suppose. At any rate, shower, then time to get cracking on some more C.F.L. content. And away I go!

Well, I was able to get a bit of work done this morning on C.F.L., atleast enough to stay on a formidable time line.

I haven't worked on seeking any freelance work the last two or three days, as my day job and coding have kept me busy enough. I still have to finish adding content to my freelance promoting website, as well as build some sample applications sometime this coming week.

I have a library of unread books at this point as well. There is so much that I would like to accomplish in a day, but there is so little time. I have about thirteen books I need to finish reading, a game engine to develope, a text game, a novel to finish writing, work five to eight hours a day, freelance work and promotion, and then of course there's my relationships with my family and friends. I think this has been a problem for me for sometime, taking on too much at once. As previously stated, I've managed to better structure my time in hopes to complete these many tasks, but it maybe time re-evaluate the level of importance of certain tasks, and dedicate less time to some then I am currently. I wish I could eleviate the need to work a stinking day job all together and would be able to devote full time work to game developement, and writing, but I suppose these things take time.

Well, I have to finish getting ready for work.

I still am in awe at the speed at which time passes. It seems differential at times. It is a supposed constant, but really it's our perception of time that really matters, as individuals. At any rate, it goes by too fast it seems in the long run. As such I find myself procrastinating a lot unless I structure my time. So, I've done just that by making various task lists for production, to meet certain versions.

I am still planning on entering the four elements contest, but as previously mentioned, I won't even begin design on my submission until I have released my next version of C.F.L., which will be version 0.5 . Initially, I figured that this would only take me a few weeks. I of course was wrong overlooking the tens of unfinished modules, and the plethora of unfinished content currently built from the frame work. Not to mention the more that I work on C.F.L. the more I realize that I have a lot to do in order to come close to my initial vision for the game. So, here is my current task list that I will have completed within a weeks time.

C.F.L. Task List : June 29th - July 6

This will bring the version up to 0.3

1. Finish reformatting Text

2. Finish writing enemy descriptions for the battle system.

3. Finish writing questions for the battle system.

4. Create chance system in it's entirety.

5. Create Bad Luck system in it's entirety.

6. Create Good Luck system in it's entirety.

7. Create Help system in it's entirety.

8. Create an ASCII map of SpAnkeny Iowa, as well as a function
to display the map.

9. Create command to allow the player to return to the title screen of the game.

10. Create generate suicide function.

11. Create shortcuts for the movement system as well as the inventory, list, and map to be displayed.

12. Add the entire population of girls from the design doc to the in game list.

13. Go through all the code, check spelling and formatting.

14. Rewrite GenResponse function entries to reflect more current events, also add more responses.

Thats actually a lot of stuff to do for a weeks time, but as I said that only brings the version up to 0.3, so It will probably be another month before the next release of C.F.L. and as such another month before I can begin working on my 4E submission. I have to go to work now though, so that's all for now.
