 ## Holy 64 bit lovin', Batman! |
Posted - 11/24/2005 12:44:17 PM | Before:

After:

This fucking beast runs like a CHAMP! I've been monitoring the internal case temperature and it stays around 29~31'C. The CPU temp resides around 32~34'C while doing normal activity.
I was able to turn Doom3 up to super ultra mega destroyer choade graphics and turned on 16x anti-aliasing. Never choked once. Meanwhile the internal case temp rose to ~35'C. I couldn't check the CPU temp while playing, but after I shut down Doom3 I ran my monitoring software that came with the motherboard (Doom3 isn't alt+tab friendly) and the CPU temp was at ~34'C.
How's that for fucking AWESOME?
:: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
:: 1GB (2x512) Corsair DDR RAM
:: Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI Mainboard
:: eVGA GeForce 7800GT PCIe x16
:: Thermaltake SViking Chassis
:: Lite-On DVD+-RW Combo Drive
The case is nice. It has the cool temp guage up front with two knobs to control the two case fans. Sounds like a vacuum when I turn them all the way up, but apparently I don't need to!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play with it some more.
By the way, everyone needs to check out this song:
Day of Fire - Fade Away
But don't download it. That's bad ... *wink wink*

 ## shit |
Posted - 11/18/2005 2:27:53 PM | So you'll notice that all of my custom CSS is gone, no more ASCII at the top. I'm going through a midlife crisis and everything must change!
Actually, one of my domains expired ... the domain which had all that stuff ... so i'm working on renewing it. kthxbye.
EDIT: This was a really pointless post... I don't even know why I made it. Sorry.

 ## ...wow... |
Posted - 11/16/2005 4:55:43 PM | Well, I'mt not quite sure what to say. FART is unreasonabally popular. As of this moment in time, it's got 125 downloads in the GDNet Showcase. I was expecting ... maybe 20.
So far, everyone who has played it (that I know of) has loved it. I feel good about myself, having completed this and gotten it out, with such a response. I really was not expecting this, I was expecting a handful of people to play it, and maybe half or a quarter to like it.
That's not to say that it's perfect. Lots of people have requested things, such as full screen mode, more guns, more enemies, etc... In the next version (if there is a FART 2) I will add more enemies and more guns, but for now this was just a small break from Lazteroids 2 ... something to get a change of pace from the learning environment of Lazteroids 2, which is in 3D. 2D graphics I know and can do quite easily ... 3D is a new environment for me.
Sure, I worked with 3D games when I was in Full Sail ... I was on the team that did fantastic and made a fucking awesome game for final project, but my dealings with the actual 3Dness of it were small. I worked on particles and then the menu/hud. I've never made a rendering engine, or a camera, or messed with frustum culling. All this is new to me and was getting very overwhelming. I found me being hard on myself because of the slow rate at which I learn. So, when ravuya mentioned PropaneInjector, I thought I would take the opportunity to test out his wrapper and take a break from Lazteroids 2.
It has been well worth it. I'm happy with where the game is and what it has accomplished. Seeing all these praises and suggestions and people playing my game, it's great. It's an awesome feeling ... the feeling of accomplishment, I mean. I haven't felt this in a while and I'm kind of anxious to get started on Lazteroids 2 again.
So, thank you everyone for boosting my spirit, playing my game, and actually enjoying it. Here's to many more rounds of FART!

 ## Holy shit it's done finally |
Posted - 11/16/2005 1:04:43 AM | So finally after about two weeks of work (not continuous ... every once in a while in the two week period), it is finally completed. Three different floor tiles, lots of blood, and nifty music. Please take the time to download it and play it and spread it around and get people to give me input and you yourself give me input and blah blah blah, you know the drill. Enjoy :)

And I thought I would take this opportunity to let you know that I am a judge for 1W1B ... Let the bribing commense!

 ## Still no gaem :( |
Posted - 11/15/2005 2:05:26 AM | Well ladies and gentlemen. I still have no game to give you guys :(
The good news is, all of the programming is DONE (until I remember that little crucial pixel that I meant to change or something) which means I am just waiting for the new floor and the music in a different format.
Turns out that PropaneInjector doesn't support mp3s, so I had to email Jervis and ask him for it in .ogg format. And still waiting on Brad for the floor texture. All my new enemy sprites are fixed and I programmed in a credits screen. So, don't yell at me for not having the game out to you, it's not my fault anymore :p

 ## Moar FART |
Posted - 11/14/2005 11:31:17 AM | Music: DONE!
Sounds: DONE!
Programming: Need to implement music
GFX: Got someone working on a floor tile, I'm making new badguy sprites
ETA: ~2 days (depending on how long it takes to get the sound implemented and floor tile done)

 ## Sounds! |
Posted - 11/14/2005 1:35:09 AM | So the guy who said he was going to make me music and sounds actually came through! The music needed a slight modification, so waiting on that, but the sounds he made are great. I can't wait to put them into the game and complete it completely. I know I said I would have a version up for you all today, but given that the music and sounds are so close, I think I'll wait to release a total finalized build rather than a soundless build now and a complete build later. Only a few more days until FART goodness. For now, a screenshot:

In the final version I won't be using that floor texture. Unfortunately, I did not make it, I stole it from some dude's website because it looked good. I emailed him asking for permission but I've gotten no response, so I'll make my own crappy floor texture tomorrow or something.
Yes, my accuracy is 100.7% ... yes I killed more bad guys than bullets fired. You'll find out how that is possible once you play the game. :)
Right now I'm listening to GWAR - Sick Of You. Have I mentioned yet that GWAR is my favorite band?

 ## FART |
Posted - 11/12/2005 9:09:06 PM | Almost done with FART. I should have a link for the masses tonight, sans music. Just waiting for the guy who said he'd do music/sounds to finish the music and sounds.
EDIT: Due to uncontrollable circumstances, I lied. My neice and nephew are staying over here for the weekend, and they're sleeping in my room, which means I get couch detail. Unfortunately, their bedtime is 9:00, and it's 9:00 at the moment. I'm almost done with the game, but not quite. Just got some small subtleties to perfect. Tomorrow, I promise!

 ## Happy Veterans Day |
Posted - 11/11/2005 5:42:37 PM | BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Whereas it has long been our customs to commemorate November 11, the anniversary of the ending of World War I, by paying tribute to the heroes of that tragic struggle and by rededicating ourselves to the cause of peace; and;
Whereas in the intervening years the United States has been involved in two other great military conflicts, which have added millions of veterans living and dead to the honor rolls of this Nation; and;
Whereas the Congress passed a concurrent resolution on June 4, 1926 (44 Stat. 1982), calling for the observance of November 11 with appropriate ceremonies, and later provided in an act approved May 13, 1938 (52 Stat. 351) , that the eleventh of November should be a legal holiday and should be known as Armistice Day; and;
Whereas, in order to expand the significance of that commemoration and in order that a grateful Nation might pay appropriate homage to the veterans of all its wars who have contributed so much to the preservation of this Nation, the Congress, by an act approved June 1, 1954 (68 Stat. 168), changed the name of the holiday to Veterans Day;
Now, Therefore, I, Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of the United States of America, do hereby call upon all of our citizens to observe Thursday, November 11, 1954, as Veterans Day. On that day let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain.
I also direct the appropriate officials of the Government to arrange for the display of the flag of the United States on all public buildings on Veterans Day.
In order to insure proper and widespread observance of this anniversary, all veterans, all veterans' organizations, and the entire citizenry will wish to wish to join hands in the common purpose.
Toward this end, I am designating the Administrator of Veterans' Affairs as Chairman of a Veterans Day National Committee, which shall include such other persons as the Chairman may select, and which will coordinate at the national level necessary planning for the observance. I am also requesting the heads of all departments and agencies of the Executive branch of the Government to assist the National Committee in every way possible.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and cause the seal of the United States of America to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington this eighth day of October in the Year of our Lord nineteen hundred and fifty-four, and of the Independence of the (SEAL) United States of America the one hundred and seventy-ninth.
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER
By the President:
JOHN FOSTER DULLES
Secretary of States.

 ## Soviet Union has ELEVEN time zones! |
Posted - 11/10/2005 1:04:41 AM | I was going to provide yo uall a link to the current state of FART, but I decided i'm close enough to just wait until I'm gone with it.
Today someone sent me a message offering to do some music for the game, so here's hoping he holds true and delivers me some music and sounds so I can add some completion to this game :]

 ## Kitten Chow Mein! |
Posted - 11/8/2005 1:15:00 AM | You see, THIS is why cheat codes are cool:

Yes, I'm sick and demented, BUT IT'S GREAT!
Yes, those are kittens. Yes, I suck at drawing. Yes, I know they look like giant orange rats.
Also, she's back.

 ## almost |
Posted - 11/7/2005 9:37:06 PM | Figured I should post something development related today.

No different than usual, really, just added the little HUD in the corner. I'm almost done. I just need to add a simple title screen, a simple game over screen, and a counter for time and kills.
