I haven't disappeared. I was just away from home for the weekend, and then my Internet connection broke down... (I'm writing this at work)

Btw, it's no fun waking up at 4am, coughing and having a hard time breathing. Yay for asthma.

I have discovered that I'm most productive in the mornings when it's not too hot. In the noon it really seems to be so hot that my brain melts and can't produce anything concrete. Late at night I'm exhausted. Well, at least I was yesterday after the first time practicing capoeira in a park (not first time practicing capoeira, but first time outside for me), and the day before after a 4-hour bike (motored one, that is) trip.

Too bad I have a day job and can only take advantage of this for like 30min each day, while sipping morning coffee and eating breakfast. Oh well... At least I'm getting _something_ done.

Small update: Spineless is now almost completely docstringed. Physics and scene management are left, incidentally two of the hardest parts to document.

The heat is seriously eating on my producitivity. I've been sitting on terraces with my friends drinking cider, riding my motorcycle, lying and reading at home... But I have been documenting Spineless too, at least a bit. Most likely I won't be getting a release out next week, but hopefully in June or the beginning of July.

Good news
Progress on documenting Spineless is going well. I'm about half-way done with docstrings, and then the tutorials.

Bad news
Writing documentation makes for boring screenshots. No progress at all on Dolorosa, since I want to concentrate on Spineless until I get 0.3 released. So you get another jelly.

I'm thinking of watching Mad Max 2 today. You know, for reference.

And yes, I'm aware my journal entries have been extremely boring lately. That's probably not going to change until I get to working on new features for Spineless and Dolorosa again. Patience, my young followers!

So, I didn't have so much time to work on Spineless and Dolorosa last week, but I hope to change that this week. I'm really itching to start working on new features, but I really need to make a release, so I'm concentrating on docs now. I started on the third tutorial; I'll probably write four or five for this release. Then docstrings and some more tests and I should be set.

Crap, I got that "colliders array not initialized" error with ODE 0.6 again, which shouldn't be possible. I hope I'm not overwriting memory or anything... no idea what's the problem.

A traditional jelly for you:

I hope I can start posting screenshots instead of comb jellies soon... Maybe I should start writing a comb jelly simulator? Sim Jelly, anyone?

I'm quite happy with how the design of my contest entry, Dolorosa, is coming together. All the four elements are IMO quite strongly represented. You can give your opinion after reading descriptions of the different elements in my game here.

Mad Max, especially Mad Max 2 is quite close to the vision of how I want my game world to be. There will be a lot of vehicles, but fuel will be scarce, so you can't use them all the time. Vehicles will mostly be used by scouts, patrols and trade caravans; your tribe will move on foot and/or on carriages.

Mainly because of 4E5, my plans for Spineless have changed again. I want to get 0.3 out of the door as quickly as possible to give me the freedom to work on new features; I don't want to add any more features to 0.3 and delay it further. It seems for many people, 0.2 represents the current state of Spineless, but it has advanced heck of a lot after the last release. I could create a branch to work on 0.3 and 0.4 simultaneously, but IMO this would just needlessly complicate things.

However, as a result of this, the amount of documentation and testing I was intending to write for 0.3 will have to be seriously cut. This is kinda sad, but as I said, I don't want to delay 0.3 any further. I'll try to write more documentation too after the release of 0.3, and possibly start releasing more frequently. I don't know yet. Anyway, probably for the next six months, the 4E5 entry will heavily drive the development of Spineless.

Anyway, I will write at least some tutorials before I release 0.3, and docstrings for everything.

And again, here's another jelly for you:

I got camera scrolling and zooming working yesterday, though it's kinda clunky now. Needs lots of tweaking still, but it works.

As seen in the screenshot thread, a gigantic futuristic building in Denmark:

Note that I also lowered the camera angle a bit.

I also found a page with the coordinates (and a bunch of other info) of just about every town and region in the world, except for the USA. Oh, and Antarctica. Might be useful to other 4E contestants too. I'm also going to post this in the contest forum.

I got past the blank screen. It's Europe! (just a test texture found from Google Images, not real game graphics)

I'm probably going to try and make something for the four elements contest and forget about the Secret Game Project until I have finished or abandoned the contest entry. I'll have to think of something cool and relatively simple to write, since I don't have too much time to spare, and I don't want to abandond Spineless for the duration of the contest.

Another spineless jelly reference, this time indirect:

I've been writing some boring documentation for Spineless. Well, I did start on a 3rd person camera class which I'm going to slip in at the last minute. That's all. Boring because there's no fancy screenshots to show. So I'll give you another jelly instead:

I'll be away for the weekend (visiting my parents), so I'll get nothing done for a couple of days.

BTW. I checked how the Spineless web site looks on my cell phone web browser (Opera Mobile). It's surprisingly readable and completely unbroken. Hoorays for formatting with CSS. :) If I had done the navigation menu using a table, this wouldn't be the case.
