Hello, http://www.oddgames.com has had an overhaul. The outside might look a lot like the old site but behind the scenes there is a whole new deal :) I have redesigned the entire site and it is now built upon a CMS (in my case WordPress). This allows for such things as comments, online editing of the news items, news categories etc... I have also set up a phpbb based forum which I am very pleased with. In the upcoming days I plan to create a page for nimrod. I hadn’t done it yet because I felt that the site wasn’t what it should have been and the page would have to be remade. Well, you can visit the site on the above link.

Regarding the editor, I am still implementing the navigation mesh. Left to do is the saving and loading routines. You can now break and weld individual vertices in the mesh (very neat!).

Have a great day, thanks for reading!

I've made some progress on Nimrod. It is now possible to add and edit navigation meshes. The procedure is rather simple; select the navigation mesh tool from the tool bar then left-click to add polygon points and right click when done. When a mesh is completed it will show in either green or red. Green meshes are convex and red meshes are concave. All meshes needs to be convex in order to work so red polygons needs to be edited. This is done by the standard move tool. Click and drag a polygon vertex so the polygon becomes convex. The function for determining convex/concave is not 100% so it is crucial to use some common sense when editing the navigation mesh. Overlapping segments are forbidden; different heights of polygon points are possible (such as stairs) but can be a bit tricky as the convex/concave function is pure 2D top-down.

Here's a simple navigation mesh in the editor:

Well, I'm still waiting for the App Store to review and accept my submission. It's been over a week now. Looks like it's true that a fourteen day wait isn't far fetched. I hope that Apple will be able to shorten this wait/submission queue a bit in the future. I've read that they treat new software and updated software the same regarding review time. This delay will become a serious annoyance if the review time becomes longer.

I have just submitted my iPhone game so it should be available in the AppStore in a few days. It is called Apple Catcher and it is a small but addictive game where you try to catch apples. The game took around one month to develop and another month to polish and test. A small description page can be found here.

    Screens:

The tree, grass, hills etc. are rendered in different layers (parallax scrolling) which creates a nice illusion of depth.

Thanks for reading! =)

Hello!

I have been away for quite some time (three months). The reason is I have started a small business. I have registered a VAT number and I am in the process of registering my company name. In the mean time I have been busy developing a small game for the iPhone. Hopefully it will be available in the App Store in the near future. But fear not! I have not abandoned my isometric project, although it has been on hold for a while.

I also recently managed to compile my old game Rymdraket (it's the Swedish name for Space Rocket). I developed it during 2002-2003 but lost the DirectX 8.1 SDK in a hard drive crash which I was relying upon at the time. Now I have found the SDK again and have therefore been able to update the game a little bit (Oh, did I have some bad programming habits back then!). So to celebrate this I decided to give the game away for free. I have setup a master server on my Webb space which game servers can publish their IP-address to so players can find it in the in-game server list. It's all very primitive but I have managed to successfully publish my own server which you are welcome to play at. It is called OddGames Rymdraket server. I will try to have it online this evening and maybe this night if everything looks Okay. The game can be downloaded from www.oddgames.com. My Rymdraket alias is O-san.

Hopefully future posts won't be so far apart. Take care!
