Arc Projection (or Arc-Line Intersection) Question I'm working on some SAT collision-detection, and I'm trying to add support for concave and convex arc segments. (Basically my shapes are convex polygons with circles added or subtracted CSG style.) For just plain circles, projecting it &...

Applying downward force when standing on a platform? (2D) You will have to excuse me for leaving most of the details on my blog. Click here to view the associated blog post that has a bit more detail and a downloadable example. What I basically have is this situation: Update: IGNORE THE DOT - it...

Dream Build Play 2009 So Dream Build Play 2009 opens in a week. Who here is going to enter? I sure am! I have wanted to enter since the first one in 2007. Now I have the time and all I need is an Xbox 360. And maybe a good idea - anyone got one for me? [smile...

Sketchable: Very Rapid, Very Indie Game Developmen Introducing my new, very rapid, very indie game development project: The idea of Sketchable to release a game every two weeks (ideally a finished game) and share the process with the community through my blog. Here are my initial Sket...

What do you do with your game ideas? I pretty much always scribble them down, but... I've just been cleaning out my various filing draws and I've also gone through and extracted some pages from my various journals. Now I have several stacks of paper in various categories - game id...

Scanners I have a need for a new flatbed scanner. Preferably one that can scan slides. But - most importantly - one who's software does not suck enormous ass. You know the sort that I mean: "lol oh look at me I'm now your default picture viewer a...

Brainstorm: making money with small games My next project - that I'm currently planning out - involves a series of small free games (not very fancy - think "flash" and "arcade"), released one per week. The platform is Windows/XNA. There will probably be 12 games to begin with, but perha...

Partition Table Recovery? So - the partition table of one of my drives appears to have been zero'd out. At least, there are no partitions in Windows and Linux fdisk says it's invalid and that it expected something (not sure what) and got 0x0000. It's kind of odd that...

Weird 64-bit and MS Word problem (pt. 2) A while ago I was having some problems with Word 2007 causing all my 64-bit applications to "lag". So I did a little digging today (because I now have an even more important program that is 64-bit and needs to play-nice with Word). I came to...

Windows Remoting (XP and Vista) So I've just got a new laptop (Vista Business) and I want to be able to access my desktop machine (XP x64) from it and vice-versa. What's the best way of doing this. I know there's VNC which "fakes it" and then some sort of Remote Desktop thing in...

Unique Windows and Linux Install ID / Product ID You could write a GUID to somewhere where it won't get removed when the application is uninstalled (eg: the registry). That will uniquely identify the OS installation, as far as your application is concerned. The usual alternative for this sort of...

Graphing Calculators.... seriously? Quote:Original post by Antheus And it comes with graphing calculator. I went looking for this on the store the other day... SIXTY DOLLARS!? For what appears to be a slightly fancier interface to the website.

Arc Projection (or Arc-Line Intersection) Question Yes it is. I realised my mistake not long ago and came back to post. There are indeed 8 combinations, as you say, not 4 as I first said. (I still haven't sat down to work out the mapping, but I'm quite confident this will work.)

Arc Projection (or Arc-Line Intersection) Question @Zipster (who squeezed in there): it's not locked in place, but I think the easiest way to define it would be as two ordered vector endpoints, a center and a radius. As it turns out - this will work perfectly for the method I outlined above (if it...

Arc Projection (or Arc-Line Intersection) Question I'm not sure it does work - I still need to know information about the projection and the separating axis for collision response. Although by trying to work out in my head how your method might work, I have figured out something else: By calc...

Apple iPad My mum would buy one. That is how I can guess that they will do surprisingly well. Right now she uses a television (via a media center PC running Windows) for the kind of things that the iPad delivers (web surfing, email, photos, youtube,...

C++ DirectX Programmer I really feel this should be tagged as [MMO] - because it basically is. But I don't know what you discussed with jpetrie, so I'll leave it at that. I think 2000 hours might be a dangerously low under-estimation by NewSoftzzz. That's only 2/3r...

Obama's Nobel Prize Speech Quote:Original post by Diodor One has to remember that the solar kW produces on average like 150 Watts and the nuclear kW produces like 900 Watts on average. Watt?

Obama's Nobel Prize Speech Quote:Original post by MatsVed Uhm, I've never been an expert on nuclear waste, but wouldn't it be possible to just dig it into the ground? Or, if that won't work, simply create a massive containment cellar of concrete, fill it with waste and...
