| I was hoping to find more articles on the legal issues involved in starting up a company or just in the industry in general. Hopefully we will see more specifics. I think a lot of people could benefit from understanding the business side of game development. Unfortunately, I think I have read this article before. Was it posted on IGDA's site first? | This article and other really great articles by both Tom Buscaglia and some really talented intelligent people with incredible insight into the game industry can be found at www.gignews.com but I'm not sure about at the IGDA's site that may be. For more specific information you might try the Game Development Business and Legal Guide or Game Design: The Art and Business of Creating Games. Both are available from Premier Press and you can check that out at www.premierpressbooks.com. However, I have not read either of these books so I’d spend some time checking them out before dropping 50 dollars on them. Maybe someone on the forum would be able to provide better info or you could check in the book review section. Mr. Buscaglia this is a great article thanks for taking the time to write it and all you do to support the gamedev community. Peter Smith |

| This article really hit home for me since I manage a small 4-man (including me) development team and for a while we were all working under no written agreements because we were all good friends. Then our artist had to drop out and we realized that if we were going to bring on someone unknown we would need a contract for all to sign so we had something in writing. Luckily my audio guy knows a lawyer and got him to help him write up a nice contract for us all. Now that I think back on it even as good friends we still should have written up at least something. A lesson well learned. Looking forward to future installments myself. _________________________________________________________________ Drew Sikora A.K.A.
