I was wondering, what are 'legal' ways of receiving someone's intellectual property on something? Is an e-mail adequate, or an autograph?

Well, yea, i think that would work.

My guess would be you'd want a witness to sign it too, and maybe a lawyer to look over it. But then again, I don't know much about this stuff.

Yea, that would be even better, since it would hold much greater
