Excellent work! Very well written article.

EDIT: all fixed. very nice, except if you move the mouse outside the window when rotating the model, it flickers and/or disappears entirely, never to return.

Very pretty shadows though, good tutorial. thanks!

Thanks for the comments--I am glad to hear that you found the article interesting and helpful!

Regarding the model flickering or disappearing: I cannot reproduce this on my computer (although I found a different issue: the application fails an assert if I move the mouse too far outside the window). What configuration (hw/sw) do you have and does the bug appear reliably on your machine?

Thanks,

Razvan.

1.4ghz t-bird, 512 DDR, windows XP pro.

It happens everytime I run the program. If i run it maximized, then it only happens when the mouse is moving around the corners of the screen. If not maximized, it seems to occur if i move the cursor outside of an elliptical region surrounding the program window. So maybe there is a singularity cropping up with the Quaternion math or trackball. Just a guess.

For me the sample doesn't work

When I run it, it opens up a command window:

main(): you must specify the model and pixel shader files

Which goes away very quickly; I captured the message by running it from a command window.

=( it looks very cool though, and very well written.

Read the execution instructions in the article. You can't just run the binary, you have to pass command-line arguments to it specifying the filenames of the model and shader files.
