Mmmm pretty pictures.... I just wanted to say (from a writing standpoint) that it would have been better if Dave had done some kind of conclusion. It's just weird when an article just seems to abruptly come to an end and leaves me wondering "was there more?" Anyways, just wanted to say that - writer to writer _________________________________________________________________ Drew Sikora President, Lead Programmer - Blade Edge Software Staff Writer, Newsletter Editor - GameDev.net Community Relations - Game Institute

Interesting article, indeed. I missed a demo, though... It'd be nice to see a tiny application that generates a landscape with a river on-the-fly, everytime you run it, even without the source code.

Oh yeah, that no conclusion thing threw me off too. At first I thought a link was missing to the next page. But it's a cool article! I also see how various parts of the algorithms could be used for other things. Such as maybe roads or dirt paths, power lines, artificial city building, etc... And it's nice to see images along with the article as well. I'll definitely try out "Liege". - Aeroum

Conclusion sent, dont know how that slipped past me =) Aeroum, I am glad you liked the article. Thinking of other ideas such as roads or powerlines is exactly why I wrote the article in a break down and tackling of the problem style. Hell Raider, a demo terrain/river generator would be cool and I will consider putting one together. Unfortunately currently the terrain/river generator is somewhat dependant on some of Liege's utilities and rendering engine, given the time I will consider doing this. // Full Sail graduate with a passion for games // This post in no way indicates my being awake when writing it

Where do you write the source code? In a C++ compiler? Do I have to use a special tool to get the river and terrian?
