| Nice article David. Glad you liked Melbourne. BTW: It was once again voted Most Liveable City in the world last year (making it a winner on multiple occasions), so your excitement at being here was justified! I managed to make it to the last day of the conference and sat in on some of the sessions (including the Indie panel discussion David mentioned... which was quite interesting). I was VERY disappointed at the Game AI Workshop on the Sunday afternoon. The level of knowledge of the state of the art of game AI (or AI in general) of the presenter was well short of what I would have expected or hoped for from a conference presenter (even at an indie conference). As an example, the statement that machine learning in AI (and here the context was AI in general, not just game AI) was 'GAs and neural nets' showed complete ignorance of the actual field of machine learning and sounded more like a newbie statement in the GD.net AI forum than a knowledgeable response from an AI exponent. Perhaps for the next FreePlay conference I should offer to put together a more valuable presentation on Game AI that actually includes more than a demonstration of a random walk!
