| Thanks for the article. I know it's only an introduction, but it did seem a bit brief. I found the most interesting part to be the section on pricing. I already understood the basic concepts but I wasn't aware of the names that went with them. I hope you follow on with some more-indepth stuff. (EDIT: botman2, I removed your reference to anonymous poster above because I deleted his post.) [Edited by - Kylotan on July 4, 2004 6:40:50 AM] |

| Hey thanks for the feedback Bot. The articles definately get more narrow as we go. Hopefully gamedev will keep me around for a while and we can get to advertising and publicity, which is about 8 pages long if I recall. Some other subjects that MAY be discussed are contacts, business of game design, creating portals vs. destinations, SEO, Recruitment, International Marketing, Affiliation and Partnerships, Press Writing... and whatever else I can think of between now and when those get published. | Pretty nice - mostly what you'd assume from thinking yourself but how often do us programmers thing outside the programming box? I thought it was a good length to introduce the main themes in preparation for something deeper. | The article was ok, but I agree it was brief and very general. I'd like to see more information, and maybe a sample marketing plan. For instance, what steps do you use to market a product? I assume you go through the same/similar steps for each product. Like a recipe. :) I did like the links to other services, like the CD on demand printing. I thought that was very helpful, and would like to see more links and resources as well. ----------------------------------- <quote>In 1965, the Russian mathematician Alexander Kronrod said, "Chess is the Drosophila of artificial intelligence." However, computer chess has developed much as genetics might have if the geneticists had concentrated their efforts starting in 1910 on breeding racing Drosophila. We would have some science, but mainly we would have very fast fruit flies. -John McCarthy</quote> http://www.gamedeli.com http://www.deege.com |

| I found the article to be a good intro to not only the ideas, but also the links to the companies that might help. I found myself wondering where one would go to get CDROMSs manufactured, and while I am disappointed that the only example mentioned was also considered too expensive, it was good to finally find a company. It's harder to find such companies with Google than you would think! I am definitely signing up for vgsmart.com's tips mailing list. |

| Great feedback guys! Next time I will include a LOT more "example" resources. A sample marketing plan... sounds like an interesting article. I will add that to my list. Some more resources: Here are some CD manufacturers http://www.megalodon.com/ Great prices, great service. These guys are hard to beat. http://www.omnidisc.net/ Last I saw these guys could get you a thousand CDs + jewl cases + traycard/2 page insert and some other stuff for about .91 USD per CD (so 914 dollars for the thousand). Im sure you can find cheaper than those two, and I have never dealt with the second, but Megalodon I have dealt with and they have been phenominal. They have a lot of packaging options too. As far as I am aware, swift CD is the only decent on demand CD producer. The only other that I can think of is Cafepress, which I would reccomend avoiding. Keep the comments coming! | ROFL: Yes, it is a strange irony but Joseph Lieberman IS my real name. I'd say I had it first but he's a bit older than me :-/ Promotion has two full articles alone. The next one covers Contacts... assuming Dave ever gets it online *glare* It contains some real useful stuff, including a couple great places to find resources (such as artists, sound effect people, music people, trailer video people ect.) After this next one I think we may get into the promotions side of marketing. |
