They "have the potential to do an AAA without having to rely on foreign help"???? You gotta be joking.

Of course they have the opportunity; the Malaysian game development community has done PS2, GC, PSP, and MMOG games from locally based and locally owned companies. The 'please give me 10 million, and I'll make a game' attitude hurts the industry more than any other single factor.

There's nothing that makes, for example, Sweden or Norway inherently more suited for AAA development than South East Asia. In fact, when you look at the cost-level , it's really strange that there isn't more development done here.

Except for the MMOG part by phoenix, do you care to provide a link to their published/shipped PS2, GC, PSP games ? Afaik there aren't any in any stores
as of this article posting of yours.

So you think their 'please give me 6 million ringgit (MDC and Mavcap)' attitude is ok instead ?

Really ? What about quality of graduates ? Education system in Malaysia seems
to be piss poor and quality of grads very low according to some forums I've read. University Malaysia just fell over 80 places down in their ranking.

Malaysia University Ranking article 1

Malaysia University Ranking article 2

Wow... strong comments here... anyway, what the "Outsourcing Talk" was pointing out during the discussion was the notion that we (ASEAN) "have" the opportunity to produce AAA products. And that we should "get it done" without looking down on ourselves and blaming every one (education, government, etc.) on the dismal showing. The talent and infrastructure is there. Its just the darn attitude that is lacking. The "see it through hell" attitude and "never say die" attitude.

Though Malaysians have not yet (in my limited knowledge) gotten any PS2, GC, Xbox games in stores (yet!), we have at least solid GBA and other mobile games to our credit. (www.gamebrains.com) gets the credit for the GBA titles. To boot, they are working on major titles on PS2 (look at their website). With professionalism on their side, I doubt that these will not go through.

Education System in Malaysia? Hmmmm.... will not comment on that (yet). That's a looooong story as you have hinted :)

So that justifies Mr Allan Simonsen aka Paradise-Isles aka boomzap.com telling lies to the world at large about the achievements here ?

Well even you have admitted, no PS2, no GC, no Xbox and certainly no PSP games yet. I have nothing against the "see it through hell" attitude, but no games, no shipped or published titles for devices claimed by Odin, means no products, nothing to show.

I just cannot accept a pathological liar misinforming the world to get his way and also his hypocrisy in justifying funding allocation where it's OK for Gamebrains and NOT ok for everyone else.

It makes South East Asians look even more stupid and desperate.

haha solid GBA????, other mobile games???, working on "major titles" on PSA2?? can you name some for us??

Before we get to that part, you obviously obviously need more reading, we are not making an advertisement, so try not to look so good.

And you obviously are not a good reader as my statement did provide the link to GBA titles. But, what do I expect from someone who posts anonymously right? :P
