Interesting article - thanks for sharing your ideas.

Instead of distributing the source & content for you game via the repositories (which is not exactly ideal for a commercial product)... how about an opensource Steam-like client (see : http://www.steampowered.com) that allows users to install closed-sourced commercial games.

This would give you the best of both worlds? No?

Obviously the difficulty here is the servers for distributing the closed source games would have to be pretty capable.
