This is excellent, really enjoyed reading it. I look forward to implementing some of those techniques in my game. Cheers :D

Thanks for finishing up the series despite the early cool reception!

Awesome article-series. Makes me wish I had completed my point-and-click adventure.

Great series so far. I'm a little perplexed as to why you'd chose the GIF format over say PNG though.

What would the benefits be with file sizes that are already so small?

It was a good learning experience for me too. I didn't even see the comments until after I finished all 3 parts anyway. :) Not that it would have changed anything. I agreed to do it and wasn't going to stop until it was done. Responses to my actions are out of my hands either way.

cool. I'm glad to hear it. I'm not very objective as to whether this is of value to anyone else or not. :)

I use Gifs because I am mostly making animations out of these which I send to Miles, the programmer of our games, who can easily autotrace the frames into vector form in Flash. That's what he's asked for. I also then have all of my work all ready to go for posting & sharing on the web. I also appreciate the control of the limited color palette with Gifs. it just works better for me.

the benefits of Gifs? See above. It's more about using them to make Gif animations with particular shared color palettes between elements I'm creating. The very small file sizes are just an added benefit. If there are better ways and methods, I'm open to learning about them.

Nah, I was questioning the recommendation of .png files. When it comes to big files I could understand using a .png because of how well it compresses, and it didn't seem necessary in this case.
