 The Essentials of Multiplayer Games

i have been having trouble visualizing just how computers know what other computers are doing in mmos. Like, how does a player's client know what other players are doing, where they are, etc. I asked tons of people on chat and stuff like that. I mean, they were helpful, but they never really answered this question. But man, this article says it all! This is exactly what i wanted to know.

The answer is that they don't. They just approximate based on the last information received from the server. The client makes corrections each time it receives new information.
