It's been on my journal for a day now, but I'd like your opinion on the animation for my up-coming game. Read at http://members.gamedev.net/johnhattan/journal/ and leave a comment with your opinion. Big thanks in advance.

| I think the animation is soild, and I like #2, because it has a more cartoon feel to it. And because the bulldozer has eyes, I think you are shooting for the cartoon style. #2 rocks my socks. HxRender | Cornerstone SDL Tutorials Currently picking on: Hedos, Programmer One |

This is incredible. I'm on an emotional rollercoaster ride. First I see a blasphemous perversity like this, and now I'm looking at the greatest animation of all time. I love them both. Maybe a slightly thinner outline on the second one, but it'd help to see what the background would be like.

I liked the first one. The border is wierd, but I don't really know waht your are aiming for with this, so I don't know if the bordermight be more apropriate for your game or not.

I would think a combination of the two would be best. The first one looks good except that it looks faded, and the second one looks good except for the thick line around it which looks kind of weird. So I guess my vote would be #1 with higher contrast. Edit: on second glance, they do look the same, but I stand by my opinion still. :) #1 would look nice with slightly higher contrast.

Definitely depends what background it's going to be put on (it'd be good to see what it looks like moving over ground, if that's what it's going to do in the game, too) Out of those two, I'd say without the border is better, or possibly with a much thinner border - definitely not as good with the border as thick as it is in #2 (although it's just about possible a border that thick could work on some backgrounds) John B

sorry i must be blind. i don't see much difference between the two animation except the bottom one has a thick border (which you should lessen by the way). They're both great by the way... sorry for not being helpful.

Top one. Don't really like that border, makes it look like something from a click 'n drag program...

The black border has jaggies when displayed against the gray background, and that bugs me a bit. #1 doesn't seem to have that problem, but that might just be because it was originally rendered against a gray background anyway, or gray simply blends halfway well with whatever it was blended against. So my vote goes for #1, but if the black border were a little be softer, and the jaggies were removed, I might prefer #2 instead.

I'm leaning towards #1...maybe #2 if the border was very slight.

I understand that you like the "modern Cartoon look" with the black border and all but there are a few problems with that. As stated before, the black border gives off jaggies and that looks unprofessional, while the cartoons use vectors so you can resize without things getting pixelated. I think what you are missing here is that those cartoons dont just put a thick border around the whole character. Usually each important piece of the body has its own thick black outline. Try googling for pictures of powerpuff girls to see what I mean. As of now, the borderless version looks much cleaner.

The border conflicts with the rest of the bulldozer too much. That sort of cartoon will have solid colours and low detail, with solid shading (if any). And, as Liquid Darkness pointed out, borders wouldn't only be around the outside. #2 is just a big style clash. Stick with #1.
