These images is from the RTS game TaSpring that me and some others have been working on for a bit over a year. Its based on the old game Total Annihilation but with significant improvements such as fully 3D(including shadows, reflective water and reflective units), deformable terrain, more advanced order options, possibility to plug in own AIs to help control your units and more. Currently we are in some beta/"playable while developing" stage of development, where we support most features from the original TA and are starting to add more and more of our own. We only support multiplayer (no single player AI done yet) at the moment but since we usually have 30-50 persons on the main lobby server one can usually find a game somewhat fast. Its licenced under the GPL so anyone can see the code and help with development if they wish. There is a linux port in the works alhough its only working in windows at the moment. Visit our homepage at taspring.clan-sy.com. |

Besides the fact that the game looks totally awesome, I really like the way you guys are handling the 'Pathfinding and debug info'. Im ognna try and make some output like that for my current project to see what needs optimizations. Also gonna try out your game >.>

TA is my favorite game of all time, and after its demise I too wanted to develop what you have here. I'm looking forward to the TA-like game from Gas Powered Games coming out next year, though.. its name is escaping me at the moment.

Supreme Commander. Oh, and TA-Spring rocks. Really, it captures the TA feeling (IMO) and fixes many annoyances from the original... so don't hesistate to get it before Ze Germans arrive and sue the creators ;)

That's very good. There were some other projects trying to create something like it but they were all talk and no code. I used to compulsively play TA online for a while. Are you aware of the 'UberHack' mod for TA? They have some quite cool solutions for the more glaring problems in the original game. Where are you heading with this game (I only read the FAQ on the site yet, so this might be something I should know from reading the rest of the site) - will you replace all original content with copyright-free stuff? How about the game rules? Exciting!

I remember the original TA! My dad used to play it a lot. I didn't like it because it was slow paced. My dad would play in the morning, set up his base with uber defense, start building the heavy nukes, leave for work, come home to find his base untouched, have his 20 nukes ready, and start nuking everything.

Yes we know about the uberhack mod (one of the images are called "ships in the uberhack mod" after all). It exists as a downloadable mod for spring. The idea is to move away from the original TA content to free content when possible, its something that will mostly require artist/modellers rather than programmers though. About TA being slow thats not really true, most games on reasonably sized maps will be decided in 10-20 minutes (although they can go on for longer if the losing side doesnt want to give up).

Wow, it looks like a lot of fun, and that's saying a lot considering that I don't really like RTS games :)

I dont really like Spring.. it is in fact more fun to play the original TA. There is pathfinding lag when moving a lot of units, and the flying construction vehicles collide so you cant build on the same building with 7+ or soething like that. It is more graphics than fun, and i think that the graphics looks best in screenshots, it is not as fun in-game. (at least last time i played it)But if i am wrong i would love to be over-proved :) But great work ;D
