After reading the rules the whole thing sounds more like a $80,000 dollar marketing project than a game demo contest.

How many competitions have you came across that had considerable prizes (such as $80,000)? Of course they will be very much about the sponsors, and the contest's goals will be catered to promote them in some way. People dont just give away $80,000 for free.

I actually think it is very fair; they have very basic and open requirements, they dont require you to have intel logo's all over your demo etc. Both the catergories you can enter have non-intel specific requirements (multi-threaded game and mobile game), I personally think that goals such as those are very well chosen (multithreaded seems to be the future with the new consoles and processors being multi-core, similarly we are getting more and more mobile and wireless with other systems - phones, psp, ds, pocketpc, omega).

Too bad it is only open to the US... (someone else before me pointed that out).

I can't seem to find a contact email address on that site, but can you enter both with the same demo?

I would assume so, but we all know what assuming does.

why would anyone want to do all this just to get 80,000 worth of revamped celeron CPUs?

Because you don't want to be identified?

IMO, Intel just wants there market share back - i'm not going to be submiting my demo to Intel, even if the team won 80K US of computers...

Yeah, it's a pity because it means most Demosceners can't enter. But they'd surely destroy any competition if they were allowed to compete ;)
