Langhorne, Pa., April 4, 2006 --Cinemaware Marquee™, an affiliated label of eGames, Inc. (OTCBB:EGAM), today announced that it will soon be bringing Introversion Software's critically acclaimed PC game Darwinia™ to North American retail shelves. With a unique visual style and absorbing gameplay mechanics, Darwinia's simple premise reveals a gateway to an all-consuming gaming experience.
"Introversion Software is a truly rare developer, making games that are unlike anything else I've ever played," said Lars Batista, Vice President, Product Development of eGames. "It is a perfect fit in our expanding lineup of fiercely original games, and we are proud to give it the distribution and support it deserves in North America."
Darwinia continues Cinemaware Marquee's strategy of bringing offbeat, innovative titles from around the world to gamers in the U.S. and Canada. Darwinia is impossible to classify - it combines elements of strategy, action, "God" control, and retro arcade action into one absolutely compelling game.
Developed by pioneering developer Introversion Software, Darwinia is a virtual theme park that exists inside a computer network built by a technology genius named Dr. Sepulveda, populated by sentient, evolving life forms called the Darwinians. Unfortunately, the systems of Darwinia have been overrun by an out of control, evil red Viral Infection. Your task is to destroy this disease and save the Darwinians from extinction.
"We lived and breathed Darwinia for many, many days and nights and it is great to see our life-blood get distribution in North America," said Chris Delay, Head of Development at Introversion Software. "We now look forward to partnering with Cinemaware Marquee to make Darwinia accessible to everyone."
Darwinia recently won three 2006 Independent Games Festival Awards at the Game Developer Conference, including the Seumas McNally Grand Prize for Best Independent Game, Innovation in Game Design award, and the Technical Excellence award. The game has also enjoyed unprecedented widespread critical acclaim in the gaming press. Computer Gaming World gave Darwinia 4.5 out of 5 stars and PC Gamer UK described Darwinia as "the most artistically exciting PC game ever." IGN.com said simply "I love Darwinia."
Darwinia will be available for $29.99 in June everywhere games are sold. As an added bonus, the game will include an exclusive poster and collectible figurine.

Although in order to comply with the US administration's new policies, the product is being renamed to Intelligent Designia™.
Would you care to enlighten a non-American like me? What are these new policies? Thanks. :-)

It's just a joke - as America trends more towards a primarily Christian state, soccer moms everywhere claim that darwinism isn't something to be taught in school, etc. The last figures of those who were against Evolution ("Darwinism") being taught in schools were something horrible if I remember correctly, on the order of 40%?
Anyways, great to see they're getting recognized for making such a great game!

Absolutely right, America(where I live) fights for "creationism" in schools. Fortunatly when I went through school we still were taught on darwin. My son on the other hand doesnt have that option anymore(thats ohio for ya.)
Congratz on being put on shelves, thats must be a great feeling. Also isnt this game the winner of IGF? or am I thinking of something else?
Funny. I'm catholic, and I still understand evolution as being valid. Evolution still doesn’t explain the origin of existence. No matter how far down the quantum or biological road in science you get, you will never find 'the purpose'. So you can safely accept both sides with some compromise. the people who dont accept sound findings are typically the backwater mid west folk, not logical catholics.

I have to disagree, I finished public school ~3 years ago. Here in Arizona (not sure if it is alot different in other states) the public schools dont even touch on "creationism", the entire curriculum is all about evolution.

Yawn. Why don't your type just get your foreign citizenship, so you can feel even more superior?
The fact of the matter is that these 'creationist' decisions always get reversed. And the only reason they occur is because we live in a democracy where every nut can say what they want and try to make it law. Only the most dyed-in-the-wool self-hating cynic would extrapolate that to 'America fights for creationism.'
That's almost as stupid as saying America fights for blocking video game creativity just because people keep pitching stupid laws that get overturned. It's called freedom.
It amazes me how much press the creationism/anti-video-game crap gets, but how little the immediate repeal always gets. Guess it just lets us all feel a little smarter than our fellow countrymen, and we all know how Internet dwellers love that.
BTW, Darwinia sucks. It's boring. And at what point does a studio stop being called 'indie'? These guys are pretty big now.

First off, I wasnt trying to feel superior. I was just stating that our local government recently put it in the curriculum(however spelled). And as far as America goes, sometimes I dont agree with the decision of the majority, but from what I hear, and have seen of other countries, this is still one of the best countries to live it. I love this place for the fact we can choose on *most* issues. So I wasnt trying to boost my ego or talk down about this country(america). Thats clear.
Second point, The IGF from what I understand is there to get yer voice heard and hopefully excel whatever game you are working on. If that means getting big and finding a publisher, then so be it. I think half of us wish we could find these things with our own personal 'indie' games. The 20,000$ isnt what they are winning or shooting for, its the publicity and hopefully publication. Atleast thats what I would hope for. Maybe im different.
--Thats coming from sum1 who has little experience in game programming. A seasoned vet would prolly be there to help change the game industry. Which in anycase would be a biproduct.

Thank you for pointing this out to those who are not familiar with our form of government. Maybe next time you can do so without being an ass.
