Veteran Game Writers Launch Writers Cabal at GDC 2007

Exclusive Prizes in the Writers Cabal Giveaway Conspiracy

February 28, 2007: Veteran game writers Sande Chen and Anne Toole, announced today the formation of new partnership called Writers Cabal. To celebrate this launch, Writers Cabal will be Wadjet Eye Games, Heavy Melody Music and Sound Design, Samu Games, and JCom.

Writers Cabal was formed to help game developers create compelling stories, characters, and dialog for games. Both Chen and Toole have over 10 years experience writing for games, film, and television. In addition, Chen has a 1995 Grammy Nomination in music video direction. They are currently working on an AAA title, a dark fantasy RPG, to be released this year.

At this year’s Game Developers Conference, Sande Chen will be moderating the panel, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Writing Across Game Platforms.” Presented by the Writers Guild of America’s New Media Caucus, the session explores the craft of writing from traditional screenplay through increasingly immersive forms of interactive entertainment. The panel will be held on Friday, March 9, from 9-10am, in the West Hall, Room 3001.

Profiled as one of the 100 most influential women in the industry by NextGen, Sande Chen was a screenwriter on the 1999 Independent Games Festival winner TERMINUS. She is the co-author of Serious Games: Games That Educate, Train, and Inform and an editor on the critically acclaimed book, Game Writing: Narrative Skills for Videogames. Anne Toole wrote for NBC serial, Days of our Lives, as well as Legacy Interactive’s award-winning veterinary games. She contributed as a writer and designer to STARGATE WORLDS.

The Writers Cabal Giveaway Conspiracy, a game taking place daily during the Expo at secret locations, will deliver t-shirts, caps, games, and other fun swag into the hands of its players, provided they know the secret password. Players can join the conspiracy by visiting the Writers Cabal website during the expo, signing up for daily mobile or e-mail alerts, or by finding members of the Writers Cabal at GDC and interrogating them for secrets.

Meetings with Anne and Sande are available during the conference. Contact Anne at 310-569-2295 or Sonata at Sonata@SamuGames.com.
