FxGen is a procedural texture generation library and tool to let you implement high resolution textures that fit in kilobytes in your applications.

The principle of FxGen is same as .werkkzeug by farbrausch (see http://www.theprodukkt.com/theprodukkt).

The texture generator is separated into small operators with each their set of parameters. This operators can be connected togethers by stacking to produce a final result.
The avantage of "operator stacking" in contrast with "traditional" solution by "cables" is simplicity !

When I see Roboblitz game using ProFx2 solution, the interest of procedural is not to prove ! (see www.profxengine.com)

FxGen is completely free, released under the LGPL for libraries and GPL for editor license.
I only ask for your recognition, nothing else.
Try the library and tool, and let me know your impression.

The original version of this library can be located at:

Quick! Where's the donation box?! ;)

But in all seriousness, excellent work for only an alpha. I'm eager to see where you go with this project. I can definitely see myself using this for my own project, depending on how it develops.

Other than all that, keep up the good work! :D

I had a chance to play with the editor a tad. This is pretty easy to use and fun. The texture file sizes were extremely small (about 2-3k for 4 textures). I can't wait to see this get a little further along with more operators.

Cool ! Nice editor ! I'm writing such thing myself , and it cool to see that there
some other out there !

So keepon the good work

very cool app,
very nice and straight forward code (gui system is simple and effective)
the stacking system ala .werkkzeug is really smart and simple.

a few remarks :
- i experienced some crashs moving the blocks around
- more primitive types would be cool, like text or vector graphics...

this project has a big potential !

Funny having worked with procedural texture generation the last couple of weeks I woke up an hour ago thinking that I should make a tool for the purpose

I am not sure that I agree with not setting it up as a flow chart with 'cables' though, but maybe when I play around with the tool I get more use to using the stack approach.

Keep up the good work!

How funny that werkzeug 3 is a procedural texture tool nowdays(and not a democreation tool as before). I would say you have taken after slightly more than just the "principle" :)

here's their download page by the way:

Pretty cool.

I am learning the GUI coding stuff w/aims of writing my own texture/content generation tool soon. It looks heavily reminiscent of Werkkzeug, but if you are going to mimic a tool, you might as well mimic Farbrausch's. What research did you do to come up the generation routines?

Awesome!

Nice work! What file formats does it export to?

FxGen, this is awesome. Fantastic work!! Maybe we should collect now example files for this. Looks like real fun.

Thank for your replies.
Yes FxGen is very similar to werkkzeug and more now since they have a texture edition version too :-)
FxGen is an open source version, and my goal is to give others developers a good base in order to use fxGen Operators Engine in their projects and develop their own operators too :-)

Cool man.

I will check out the sources.

Peace

Awesome tool! Thanks for releasing it under LGPL!
