I am a computer science student from Poland, interested in game development.

The Final Quest is my amateur 3D graphics engine written in C++. It works in Windows using DirectX 9.0c and graphics hardware with Shader Model 2. I've started it with some base modules like math library or logger, than I've created the framework with resource manager, GUI system and the renderer itself.

It took me many months to learn all this stuff, write all these modules and sometimes drop the code and start from scratch again. I call the current version number 7 and I consider it as finished.

My homepage is in Polish, but you shouldn't have problems reaching gallery, sample videos or demo executable, so here are links where you can find more information about the engine:

Engine homepage
Final Demo executable, v. 1.1 (5.18 MB)
Source code (1005.78 KB)
Final Demo video, high quality (76.74 MB)
Final Demo video (watch online)

Wow man this is really awesome stuff, great job!

I'm a CS student and worked on my own 3D engine, and it's nothing compared to this. Great efing job, really.

Were you the only one working on this?

++rating

Awesome job! I love your RTS's graphics and the general quality of the scenes show n in your video is outstanding. I also like a lot your engine icon =). The Third-person adventure game's main character's walking animation still needs a little work though ;)

I'm downloading he vid, but the pics look great!
I'm also wondering if it was a one-man-job / how many months did it took to finish, and what features does it have (like ai, scripting, physics, netwrking and whatnot).

Wavesonics: Yes, I am the only one developer of this project.

Trillian: The icon is actually an avatar I use in the Internet on forums, but I couldn't set it on this forum :)

When it comes to animation - yeah, I know, that's the result of when a programmer tries to make graphics :)

ZippoLag: About time, the project as a big whole thing took me years. The latest iteration of my base modules was started in the summer 2006 and the latest iteration of the renderer was started in July 2007.

The list of features isn't suprising. First of all, it is only a 3D graphics engine (or a renderer), not a game engine, so there is no physics, no AI, no networking etc.

The full list of features is here. It's in Polish but you should recognize some of the technique names. I can translate it if you want :)

well, good work for the engine, but did you made it only for polish programmers ? :), or it's just a technique to keep the source code harder to understand :), if you wanted to make the engine for the world, you should change all to english.

Well, actually I didn't think about what is it going to be for, besides my own experience, item for my personal portfolio and the code for my MSc thesis at university. I don't know yet if I'm going to release it as Open Source or make it an off-the-shelf library usable for games. When it comes to the code, currently all the identifiers are in English, but comments and documentation are in Polish.

heh, that's ok, the reason I asked is because I have a bit of a one man project in my hands, I'm just beginning but it derfinately seems like it's gonna take me some time, specialy if I'm studying and working at the same time.

Hi, looks really good! In the first moment I thought you are making a complete game and I was surprised about all the different modi in one game;) Especially the packman level!

The RTS screen shot looks like Warcraft - and I love that!

I remember that 'Tiny'. I use it often :)

I'm sorry for reviving the inactive thread, but I just wanted to inform that I had published the source code of my engine under the GNU GPL license. Comments and documentation are in Polish, but all the identifiers in code are in English.

You can find the archive here:
TFQ7_1-1_src.zip (1005.78 KB)

Wow, amazing... that'a a pretty good job, and the source code would surelly help me ( reading for game engine right now ), but... it's a dead link :(

I'm sorry for that. That's because I did an update. The new archive is here:
TFQ7_1-1_src_update_01.zip.

Thanks, I'll get a good traductor and I'm sur this will be very helpful.

Thanks again and continue the good work ;)
