Virtual meetings held in Sony's Home. Microsoft partaking as well? The news over at Gamasutra (as reported by gaapweb.com) stated that companies like Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch are trying out virtual meetings using the PS3's online service Home. More interesting was the bit about Microsoft also participating in the program, which was commissioned by Advanced Workplace Associates, headed up by Portsmouth University's Dr. Nipan Manier and Manish Malik. Why would MS be using Home when it has its Live Meeting and Xbox Live's party system? Well they wouldn't, and they aren't. But besides that, it does make me curious as to whether any PS3 platform developers out there are using Home to meet virtually with any contractors or satellite studios. Anyone?

CES in full swing. The technology world has descended upon Vegas once again to hold the 42nd annual Consumer Electronics Show. While it's not focused on game development, it does feature some development-worthy stories every now and again. For example, during it's keynote Microsoft dropped word about a game-creation tool dubbed "Kodu" that is operated with just an Xbox 360 controller. It's set to launch this spring. If you're one of those people itching to test development on new platforms, know that Windows 7 beta is now out in the wild as well. For more CES coverage, because let's face it pretty much all of us are tech geeks, you can check out Maximum PC and Gizmodo for starters.

Microsoft predicts PS3 price drop this spring. In a move that will no doubt spite Sony to not drop the price of their console, as if they were really planning to anyways, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg argues that a price drop is needed this year for the console to stay competitive install base-wise. While it is a possibility that the PS3 could start actually turning a profit this year, Sony has been denying the planned existence of a price drop anytime soon for quite some time now.

So which games do you think were played the most in 2008? If you guessed any game that was released this year, you'd be wrong.

I have to question their methodology of obtaining that data. I know this statement on ShackNews pretty much sums it up for me.

Unfortunately, Nielsen did not specify the methodology behind this year's results. In 2007, the firm based its list off an extremely small pool of participants, a mere 1200 gamers, which could explain the unexpected results. It is not known if this was changed for 2008.

That's just my take on it anyways.

Sony does not need to do a price drop. For what you are getting its worth the money. This isn't just a game console its also a blue ray player/dvd player/free internet play/hdmi/wifi built-in/browser/stream support from my comp etc.... If anything Sony just needs to do better advertising and get the point out how awesome it is and that its more then a box to play video games on.

QFT. That poll shows Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC beating Halo 3. I'm just about positive that Halo 3 kicks the crap out of Halo: Combat Evolved for PC in terms of # of players and # of hours played each week.

The games in question are all PC, note the title:

Unless you have all those other features already (except the ability to play PS3 games) and don't need/want (or can defend the price tag of) yet another machine to handle them for you. :)
