Time for another "Getting to Know You" post. What hobbies do you have other than using the computer and programming? Feel free to tell about things you plan on doing, too. Edited by - Densun on January 1, 2002 10:49:54 PM

Drawing and writing for LARPs (Live Action Role-Play - not that awful Vampire stuff).

They''re coming for you!
Racing (usually out on country hilly/turny roads) sorta like rally. Baseball is an awesome sport, hockey is fun too, but i''m not really any good... I guess I usually end up being the comic relief. and annoying the people that love me (the list is starting to shorten )

Ok, Densun, I'll tell you. I hope you respond to my post.

I like outdoor landscape photography using 35mm, medium format, and large format cameras. I prefer to photograph in Inyo County, California, one of the most awesome places on Earth. This county has the oldest living thing on Earth, the deepest valley in the Western Hemisphere (Owens Valley), the lowest point in the Northern Hemisphere (Death Valley), the Racetrack Playa, the highest point in the U.S. outside of Alaska, 14 of the 15 fourteen thousand foot peaks in California, the highest lake in the U.S., a rich history, sublime desert and alpine terrain, two mountain ranges exceeding 14,000 feet and a whole lot more.

I also climb, but not nearly as much as I used to, nor do I consider myself a really good climber. I also do a little moutaineering and peak bagging, notably in the High Sierra.

I want to learn welding. I am fascinated by the concept of fusing metal together.

I enjoy reading immensely and frequent bookstores. I have a library of books which include sci fi, mystery, and adventure fiction, real life adventure, photography essay, climbing guides and canyoneering guides, and petroglyph guides.

Sometimes I get it in me to scout out ancient Indian petroglyphs in the Southwest and Inyo County.

I love roadtrips and do them when I can. I have taken several roadtrips through Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, California, Utah, and Colorado. I intend to take many more roadtrips to these locations, and I also want to take some roadtrips to Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana.

In the High Sierra, I want to climb all 13 of its fourteen thousand foot peaks, and numerous thirteen thousand foot peaks and numerous twelve thousand foot peaks. Additionally, I fully intend to get over several more high passes (usually above 11,500 feet). Also, I intend to get to the Evolution Basin and the Ionian Basin, both residing at an altitude at about 11,500 feet. I have thus far made 31 forays into the High Sierra.

I have been contemplating the idea of buying a Fuji 617 panoramic camera. This camera is about 11 inches wide and shoots a 2 1/4" x 7" negative. I want to lug this camera to the top of about 15 12,000 foot peaks and do panoramic photography of the surrounding terrain. Such activities will likely require camping or bivying on the summit to get late afternoon light and early morning light. I may parley this into a book deal if I can. Nonetheless, I intend to use the photos as gallery prints if I can using the new laserjet 5000 crystal archive print process.

I love eating out and I would like to sample all of the nicer restaurants in my area, particularly the steak houses for prime rib.

I enjoy appreciating fine original oil and acrylic paintings of western landscapes and southwest themes. I usually make a point to frequent a few art galleries when I go on my road trips.

I'm a fan of aircraft, particularly amphibious aircraft and I'm still entertaining the idea of getting a pilot's license with a seaplane rating. And I enjoy air museums.

Oh, and I'm a pretty big fan of 3d graphics programming.

Damn Bishop_Pass, that's a heck of a lott stuff Mine? Well I have a few past and present hobbies (and sports), old and retired. I'll list them all though (all game dev stuff is assumed):

  • Gymnastics - Figure I'd get the sports outta the way first. I'm a gymnast, and have been for... 17 years now (I'm 19). I coach it and I love it. I'm so crazy I must have come near-death a couple of times, I'm the kind of guy who enjoys doing double-front flips on the trampoline. I want to start working on my 2 1/4 and 2 3/4 flips as well.

  • Martial Arts - Although I only started training officialy last year, I've been studying it since I was a kid. Ninjitsu is my favorite art, thanks to my Japanese background.

  • Model Building - I used to love to build model aircraft, but I haven't found time to do it in so long. I still have yet to construct a model that actually looks nice I mean I would use acrylic paint for cripessakes!

  • R/C racing - Never as a sport, but just for fun I used to run cars up and down my street. I've always wanted to get into R/C planes but the expense has held me back.

  • Kiting - Ever see a stunt kite? They are the coolest things ever. I have a basic delta kite I take to the beach every now and then. However i still have to get it repaired from my last outing, when I flew it in 30mph+ winds - I was able to execute like 7-9 spins before it came close to the ground, it was insane! I couldn't crash it either, it's wingtip dug a 3-foot long furrow in the sand when I took it horizontal across the beach too low.

  • Tree climbing - I don't have any mountains nearby so this suffices One day I wanna build a tree house I could actually live in as a sort of hide away. The highest tree I climbed was about 80 feet (I went all the way to the top), and the toughest was one where I had to use a rope and harness just to reach the first branch. I've never fallen.

  • Reading - I'm an avid reader and frequent Waldenbooks and Barnes & Noble. I tend to stick to Star Wars, Game Dev books, and a few select action series tho, I'm not a general bookworm.

  • Web design - I once tried to make this a living but my graphic skills suck so now I just do it as a pastime.

  • Flying - I keep meaning to get my pilot's license for a single-engine craft but again, monetary issues keep cropping up. Dang. I wanna eventually have my single- and multi-engine craft license as well as an instrument rating.

If I think up anything else I'll post it up.

I''m always scared of the people with those. I''m afraid they''ll lose control and whack me with the kite.
Well lets see now,
I do play the clarinet so thats on hobby. Other than that I did at one point do a lot of bird watching but not that much anymore. I tend to enjoy not doing things, thats loads of fun.

Oh yeah, I really enjoy movies, but more from the standpoint of renting then going out to see them. For about a six month period I was renting about 5 movies a week, playing catch up with lots of ones I hadn't seen.

I built a few RC airplanes and a helicopter and crashed them too.

Yeah. My friend the boat builder who is going to teach me how to weld really likes flying stunt kites.

When you want to graduate to mountains give me a call.

  • Web design

I've been guilty of this myself.

Cool. As I said, I would like to get a pilot's license too. I have tried to get my friend the boat builder to get his med up to date so we could go rent a Cessna 152 and practice. I would love to get an Aviat Huskey, or a Citabria.

Another thing I've been thinking about is astrophotography and astronomy. I've had my eye on a Celestron 11" GPS Nexstar scope. Ultimately, I'd like to get an SBIG CCD guider for it and do some astropotography.
