SFML's 2d rendering actually occurs in OpenGL, it just hides away the abstraction from you, so it'll be plenty fast.

As for SFML's network API's, there are still some holes in it (or at least there was a few months ago), but, I would suggest looking at Raknet. It's a great networking API, and has tons of features. It's free for hobbyist, but if you end up going commercial, you'll have to pay.
