To whom this post may concern,

I am not a man of many words. Usually. But here I sit, waiting for some profiling tools to download over my ungodly(ly) slow internet connection in Vietnam. I am a new video game engine programmer, and my name is Dave Ottley.

I have been monitoring this forum for some time and have decided that it would be a great time to make friends. I know that the vast majority of forum members are also programmers, but what I am looking for is a person (or people) who are "in the same boat" as I am. What boat is that, you might ask. Well, I have a burning passion for development and video game development in particular, and I have come to the realization that despite the individualistic bent that is likely present in most of us indie people (programmers, designers, artists, or otherwise), there are certain tasks that are best tackled in groups, and some which approach only being tacklable with more human brainpower than even the smartest individuals out there can provide.

Which brings me back to my point. I am looking for like minded individuals who are smart. Not young. I don't care if you write in complete sentences all the time but I want to find someone who is relatively proficiant with verbal communication.

Are you still reading? Good for you and good for me because I didn't think anyone would read this far into an internet game progammer's version of the Sunday personal ads. White, male, late 20's indiscriminate about sex, age, size, race, or religion seeking partner for intimate long term relationship :) x2.

OK, so I live in Vietnam and I don't have a job per se, because I am a freelancer doing other non-gamey and more boring things. I have lots of 'free' time (read about 80% - 90% of my waking hours) for programming. For the last couple of months I have been productively using those hours to write the basis of a C++ DX11 2D game engine for puzzle game development. I have focused on learning the low-level and abstract concepts necessary for complex D3D and graphics processing work and not on content creation or deadlines.

OK, back to the point. I'm looking for someone with:

1) Passion
2) Lots of time
, and

While this is not necessary or even desirable this trait will likely be present due to my

3) Lack of experience, and a strong desire to work on real world problems to eliminate said lack.

And, perhaps most importantly, because we all know that money makes the world go 'round,

4) No need for personal income and no specific desire to work TO attain personal monetary gain

I want to get rich as much as the next guy, but let's be honest with ourselves. Most indie developers aren't swimming in cash in their basement pools, and trying to achieve such a thing will likely result in the failure to attain any green, presedential paper in the end anyway.

I have (had) a career already and I hated most of the minutes I spent earning big money and that is why I have decided to devote my life to making games. It would be nice to find someone that is like minded.

I don't know what the chances are that I will find anybody looking for a partner from this post, but I hope that you, yes YOU reading this message decide to take the time to send me a personal email because if you are serious about game development, I think we can work together to make something truly spectacular, and have fun doing it :D

If you are an artist, game designer, or music person you are especially welcome because art in particular is something I am not proficient in, and a full time game designer is necessary for a project to really hit it out of the park, in my personal opinion. I have lots and lots of music making software and hardware that I could even contribute to your cause, oh music makers of the world. I would like to meet a game designer who is just a "fun guy (or girl)." This is someone who's only goal is to have as much fun as possible, and help others have as much fun as possible. I love fun, but sometimes I have to be all business.

Enough written. Please contact me at my personal/work email if you are interested in doing a project together. I look forward to hearing from you.

King of Noobs

P.S. English as a first language is not a prerequisite for my interest in working with you, but very strong English skills are appreciated as I am looking for someone to have detailed and possibly low level conversations with regarding system and game design. Educational requirements also don't exist (I have a bachelor's degree in accounting, which I never use), but you should be a smart and self-energizing learner. Thanks :D
