Well heres my struct which takes the floats:

struct OFFSET{float X, Y, Z, A;};

I added the A on the end to make it a multiply of 4, but I still get the same problem

edit:

and struct VERTEX taken by UINT stride has always been 4

struct VERTEX{FLOAT X, Y, Z; D3DXCOLOR Color;};
