To test for odd vs even don't use modulation. Just binary-and with 1.

0 & 1 = 0
1 & 1 = 1
2 & 1 = 0
3 & 1 = 1
4 & 1 = 0
5 & 1 = 1

0 | 1 = 0
1 | 1 = 1
2 | 1 = 0
3 | 1 = 1
4 | 1 = 0
5 | 1 = 1
