PS, I've made a few changes and have another updated the code above, and this time the behavior actually seems "better"... I don't end up out in space and collisions *do* seem to be "registering"... But it seems like the push-back is "under-calculated"... Like, I hit a floor and as i go down through the floor, there seems to be some upward normal velocity so it moves through the floor slowly until it gets all the way through then resorts back to faster velocity.  I'm thinking this might have something to do with an ellipsoid-space conversion I may be missing, or something like that.
