I assumed you got the answer you were looking for when I saw this thread had 6 replies already..


What you want is to be able to load resources onto a normal web server, that serves them up via HTTP. Ideally, you would compress these things as much as possible, and the game executable would act as an HTTP client - doing typical HTTP requests for the files.


Another strategy is to database all your resources on the server, and write a server-side script in something like PHP, and the game client then simply requests the PHP script (like any file) with a resource ID argument, or name. Then the PHP script would look up the resource and send it back to the client.
