Game Programmer

Date Posted: December 16, 2011
Category: Programmer
Employer: Unknown Worlds
Type: Full-time
Location: San Francisco, CA
Description:
Game Programmer (Natural Selection 2)

As a game programmer on Natural Selection 2, you'll be implementing core game features in Lua and/or C++. Fun, user-facing features like new weapons, alien movement modes, alien evolutions UI features (menus, Commander Mode), etc. You'll take feedback from community, playtesters and team to refine features to make sure they work smoothly and intuitively as they are supposed to. We hire generalists here, so you won't ever be pigeon-holed to do only one type of task.

About Unknown WorldsWe are an agile and informal team of six in downtown San Francisco. People often switch roles or volunteer to do something that is important to them to learn new skills, help someone else out or try something new. We have very specific company and project goals but we've found that we generally work better by "doing" over "planning". We created a popular Half-life shooter/strategy mod called Natural Selection and have been creating all our own technology and lovingly crafting the commercial sequel for a few years now.

We're in beta on Steam with about 30,000 players and are patching every week or two - it's starting to get fun! We have customers and a passionate audience that cares about every change we make. Now we're looking for a few more talented folks to help us finish the game and make it shine. You'll get to work in a fun and relaxed atmosphere in our sunny office with tons of windows in our San Francisco office in SOMA. We are a social bunch, and regularly play video games, board games and have many meals together.

We don't really care about schooling, education or background. We DO care about what you've built and that it's high-quality. We also want you to love games, be easy to get along with and have the skills to help us create something incredible. Please e-mail your cover letter and links to your work to us atjobs@unknownworlds.com (resume optional). You can also come to our monthly Postmortem gatherings to introduce yourself in person. We look forward to meeting you.<br clear="all">
