Pac-Hedron  by yckx    *****

Time Spent: I had this idea eight years ago. I began this latest attempt at realizing it about a year and a half ago.
Date Added: Apr 28 2011 08:08 PM

I'm posting this to help test the Image of the Day feature.

This is a current screenshot of my perpetual project, Pac-Hedron. The maze rotates as the player moves, keeping the player model mostly centered at all times (plus or minus some, due to camera acceleration/deceleration). It's still lacking ghosts and a HUD for score display. I hope to include mazes representing the other Platonic solids, and multiplayer support, although I doubt either of those will be siin in an initial release.

I've been playing with the maze shader, so it looks different than the videos I've put on YouTube. Soon I'm going to try to write a volumetric shader. We'll see how well that turns out.

The still shot is pretty, but in the video you can see the glow pulse with the beat of the music, which is a part of the synaeshetic feel I'm trying to incorporate into the game. Once I feel the game is close to a releasable state, I'll shop around in the forums and try to find someone to create music tracks and sound effects specifically for the game.

Cool variant of the classic! As far as I can see (through the bloom) it looks really neat. :)

Thank you. And, yeah, the bloom is ramped up pretty high in the screenshot. I keep toying with the values, and the bloom is a bit strong at the moment, plus the screenshot was taken toward the beginning of the glow pulse.
Totally awe. I've seen some of this in the past but I have to say glow really adds a lot! Looking forward to see it completed, hopefully you could get some $ out of it!
Thanks! You're not the first person to suggest I might monetize this, but I don't know how to sell a Pac-Man clone and avoid trademark or IP issues. It's definitely something to look into, though ;)
Looks nice and fun, and the name is good too :)

I've already made my love for this project clear in your journal, but nice to see a video at last.
Oh, forgot to say, there's an excellent article here at GameInternals about how the original PacMan ghost AI was implemented. I think you'll need to multiply the number of ghosts by the number of sides of the solid to make them work in this game though.
Thanks, DWN and Aardvajk! DWN, I remember you were among the first to show interest, way back when ;) And thanks for the link, Aardvayk. I had a link to a long Pac-Man article that included information about ghost behavior, but this article is more focused and easier to search for specifics. I'll be making good use of it in the near future. I started working on adding ghosts yesterday.
great implementation ;)
Thank you!
Wow! I'm impressed... Can't wait to play :). Good luck with finishing your project... Waka-Waka...
Thanks for the kind words. And thanks for wishing me luck. I'm nowhere near abandoning the project, but I've not been spending as much time on it as I'd like to. Rest assured it will be completed, but don't expect it to be any time soon :(
