books/whatever for learning/understanding c++ and beyond
I know javascript/html/coldfusion, and have recently taken some c++ tutorials on the web. I understand whatever they''d teach me in the computer science classes in school, but due to my ghetto, tutorial-driven c++ foundation, I don''t think I know the RIGHT way to do things (or understand other ways to go about doing the same thing in a different way), and sometimes exactly what is going on. Pointers are still very dodgy to me, which goes along with making proper use memory (such as deleting objects i don''t need anymore, and not copying stuff that I should only have 1 instance of).
There is a lot of c++ junx that I just don''t know about as well, and a book that explains things like this would be nice.
I hear actual coding is the best way to improve your skills, but when I''m coding I want to make sure I''m doing it right.

Follow this link to download to great 2 great books on c++: http://www.mindview.net/Books.
The books are "Thinking in C++" Volumes 1 and 2. Both are quite lengthy (over 800 pages each), but they cover C++ in great detail. Topics covered include pointers, references, the STL, execeptions, OO design, etc.
I''m about half way through the first volume and its been very helpful. I will note that these books are not written from a GAME programmer''s stand point.

Accelerated C++ is also a good book.
