Dear all, I recently was made redundant from my job, and I got some cash which I spent on a new computer! (and a food processor for my partner, Sheila!) Now I want to get into games programming! Where is the best place to start? Yours sincerely, Len Sherry ps. I apologise if I have made some mistakes. As I said, I am new to this (but not new to life!!) Len Sherry - Programmer (to be!)

game developpement is a hard business... don''t forget this!
Well, I haven''t much money so I cannot afford to spend alot of time on the internet! Can you please summarise the main things for me.

Thank you.

Buy a book on C++, as well as a good compiler....you can download them for free though...something like Dev-C++ http://www.bloodshed.net
Sup guys?
First you must learn a programming languaje. If you have never programmed before try Pascal or C first.

You must get a compiler of the languaje you choosed. There are plenty free compilers out there, but anyway go to
www.bloodshed.net where you can find one for Pascal or C and C++.

To learn the languaje search the web for programming tutorials and you will be on your way, or get into
http://www.strath.ac.uk/IT/Docs/Ccourse/ for C
http://library.thinkquest.org/11127/ for Pascal

After you learn the languaje try making a Tetris clone, and you are on your way, and just keep making games more complex.
The resource section of this site is "crap", read books on programming & games programming.

This wasn''t me
The best place to start is to first get another job and stay out of trouble. And take care of Sheila.
That''s one mistake I made.

You don''t know what you''re getting yourself into. Profitable game programming is extremely hard for an individual to do. Trying to launch straight into it from 0 knowledge is suicide. Get another job, and start learning it as a hobby. Once you''re good, then go for profitability.
