ArtificiaI Intelligence really works?
Does anyone here think that AI can really emulate human behaviour and emotions anytime in the near future?

How near would "near" be? Some things get pretty close already, look at the "Creatures" series of games. The trouble is that humans are terribly good at figuring out what isn''t realistic behaviour, so it''s hard to convince us of the personality of a machine.

If you happened to see this years BBC Horizon show on Artificial Intelligence, they have a test every year to see how far AI has advanced.
They have three chat-rooms, two humans, one bot... but they don''t tell you which is which. I think this year about 30% of people were fooled by the chatbot, kinda gives you something to think about.

Usually, "other side" is limited to a simgle topic, because it''s extremely difficult to program one for general conversation. Not to mention the fact that a lot more goes into interacting to another human than text! Fooling a person with words is one thing, fooling us with speech and video is another.
I would have to say yes, and it''s pretty much already starting. Many people have already made very realistic chatter bots that even someone who knows they are obviously only a computer program can sometimes be fooled. However, it will most likely be quite a while before AI can mimic human behavior and thought EXACTLY. So don''t expect to see to see something like C3P0 in a store anytime soon
If you code it, they will come...

We are already capable of doing that... but the question is really who will take the *time* to do it? Also, the AI would run extremely slow on a typical computer right now.
I really have to disagree with that last post...
we are not capable of making a human like computer program.
Universities take the time to try and do this stuff but we are still no where near...
Only a couple of prgrams have actually passed the turing test which is recognised as a test of humanness for programs but is it enough?
They still can only respond to textual keyboard input what about audio and visual inputs?
humans can do that but machines definately can not!!
(has anyone used ibm via voice?)
it is too difficult to do at present, and would we really want it done in the future??

actually I have to ask again,
What is intelligence?

The movie Space Oddysey: 2003 or whatever... that movie is about AI in the future isn''t it? I wanna watch that movie, anyone give me some info on it (withour ruining the end, of course! )?
