radiosity "light map" production
Does anybody have any experience with using a radiosity renderer to create output suitable for creating light maps. I believe I''ve read that 3d Studio or Lightscape or whatever does this but aren''t these very expensive programs? Are there any less expensive packages that will produce suitably useable data.
I''ve been reading the doc on "Radiance" and it appears that through some workarounds you could extract the data you need, but I''m not sure this is the only or best route. Has anybody used "Radiance" for this purpose?
Not really answering your question, but anyways....
You should try coding your own radiosity processor, it''s really not so hard. Read the excellent radiosity tutorials over at FlipCode. And try this links http://www.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/clubs/spp/winter98/radiositylinks.html. It''s not so hard getting a progressive refinement radiosity processor up an runnin''. Also, Advanced Animation & Rendering Techniques by Alan Watt has some great info on radiosity.
Good luck, Tobias.

Thanks, I have considered this and almost did it a year or two ago. I''m sure I could do it with the resources I have available. I was just hoping there was something instantly available, but as usual, sometimes just coding something yourself is the most expedient route.
It couild even be quick and dirty (just simple meshing and little efficiency optimization to start. Leave the hard stuff for later if neccessary.
