Yeh loads of universities are now offering Games Programming and Gamers Design Degrees. In the UK there are now over 10 universities offering such courses. I''m just hoping that the gaming courses wont turn out more than the industry needs like in media degrees. The danger is that with so many gaming professionals coming up there will be a shortage of jobs and talent will be wasted.
i really dont like the idea to make degrees of every thing. This seariously burns out talent.

Thats why i dislike universities for this act. They just want to make money.

Degrees are good to engenieering, medical, chamistry, phyics stuff.

But please please dont make them for Game Programming.

No one has right to get job in gamming industry with a "degree". You have to showup your self how good you are. Having a degree in math or physics has good effect that you have an academic background.

Unversities or game prog institutes are good for guiding. But some people really mis guided that they are doors of jobs.

I''m doing one now, in Australia (at QUT, Brisbane). While it''s called a games design course, it''s actually just a double degree in IT and Creative Industries (Communication Design). So, at the end, you just get those two degrees in 4 years, instead of 5. That''s all it is - there''s not all that much games-specific material, apart from a final-year project.
I''m doing Computer Science (Games Technology) at Charles Sturt Uni. Since I''ve applied for this course when it just started, it really sucks because there are WAY too much theory in the course, and almost no practice. There were 3 courses on actual programming (C++, MFC and DirectX), but they were guided to us on the elementary level (especially DirectX) since the teacher had to learn them first by himself.

So, I''m considering to quit it and get some job, and at the same time look for some job that''s closer to games development.
I''m currently finishing my OpenGL GUI Project, it will be on my website any day soon, so check it out if you want.

Other thing I want to point out, is that games development has to be done in a way Interactive Academy does, or some other institution in USA - a group of people is taught basics of games development, and then they compose a team that actually makes a game together, because that''s the actual way of making a decent game and working as a team.

" Do we need us? "
