Hey, I really want to learn Java (not just for games, but that''s the main purpose). Do you guys have any recommendations for books or tutorials? If you code it, they will come... Commander M http://commanderm.8m.com cmndrm@commanderm.8m.com

The biggest help I had to get going was the stuff from Sun.
java.sun.com
java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/

The API reference and source code for standard classes will become your best friends.

The book I learned Java from was, ''JAVA In Plain English'' Secend edition by Brian Overland. I thought this book really kicked ass. It''s got some tutorial stuff in the beginning to get you on your feet and the rest is like a dictionary Once you are on your feet. A very helpful book.(In my opinion).

War doesn't determine who is right, war determines who is left.

"Sams Teach Yourself Java in 24 Hours" by Roger Cadenhead. He covers applications and applets. In the end he gets into animation sound and stuff like that. even if you are not going to get into game design with java it gives you the basics. Plus you might want to pick up a book on JFC. Mines a little old so i can''t tell you one

I am trying to learn Java and C++ at the same time (talk about confusing!)

The best web link I''ve found for Java is the following:

http://chortle.ccsu.ctstateu.edu/cs151/cs151java.html

Now, it starts from absolute newbie and goes up, but I feel that nothing is being left out. I know that when I get to a concept, I''ve been pretty thoroughly grounded in the preceding concepts.

Don''t have any books, but O''Reilly has yet to steer me wrong.
