I would have to say after buying a few books that the best book i ever bought was a book on C++ :-) and that andre lamoth is one of the coolest people alive. anyway i know most of this has been said but here goes anyway. 1) "tricks of the windows game programing gurus" is an expanded yet a little harder to read version of "Windows game programing for dummies". And both are excelent books. 2) "3d game programing with c++" is garbage, just read "tricks of the windows game programing gurus" for the directDraw stuff (you''ll be much better off) and the directx7 sdk help. you''ll get a lot more info and it''s a lot cheeper. 3) if you need books Amazon.com or your biggest local bookstore are the best way to go. Black Art of 3d Game Programming is a good book by him also. It''s a bit old and 16-bit, but it is a very good explanation of how software 3d works.
I totally agree with you on Lamothe, although I haven''t read any of his recent books. And if anyone doubt''s Lamothe''s books, all I have to say is that I learned C off of Lamothe''s Teach Yourself Game Programming in 21 Days and my compiler''s help files. When I was 10. That''s how good his books are.
