Hey there.. I''m new around here and I just now started using 3D Studio Max for a game that I am co-developing. It''s a 3d First person shooter and I have allready begun to create many models for characters and weapons. Just one problem though: No Textures. I''m really good with 2d Art so making textures Isnt a problem, its being able to properly skin a model and apply textures thats left me in the dark. If anyone can help me out by explaining this proscess to me or telling me a good place to find a tutorial, i would really apriciate it. The biggest thing is that i dont know how to apply a texture in 3D studio MAX. Please help me out! ~thanks Captured Reality.

Hi, texturing in Max seems a little complicated at first but it''s very powerful. Select the object you want to texture. Open the material editor(I just hit ''m'' but I might have set that shortcut). Select a default material in the material editor. Change the type to standard if it''s not. Now make sure your objects still selected and hit the button ''apply texture to selection'' or drag the material and drop it on the object. Now click where it says maps and all the things that you can use textures to do appear. Hit the Diffuse color button where it says none then select bitmap from the list, select the map and hit ok. now are in the bitmap options. You can hit ''go to Parent'' to go back to the main map options.Hit ''show map in viewport'' so you can see it on the object. If nothing apply a UVW modifier to the objr\ect and adjust the mapping. Try setting a bump or reflection map too. I had a cool site of great Max tutorials bookmarked but I can''t find it. I''ll look for it.

Cool, thanks you guys.. thats really cool. I''ll check out those sites as soon as i get the chance. I got just the info I needed.
BTW if any of you guys are interested in 3d shooters, i suggest you check out our Captured Reality page. There isnt much as far as demo''s available to the public right now, but its coming along really fast and if you want to stop by, we''d really apriciate it. Its probably one of the first ever 3d shooters made in visual basic. Anyways, thanks again!

Hey if anyone has any more links to 3d modeling sites, post em up...
