why was it closed?

why was the christian programmer thread closed? I thought everyone was doing an excellent job of avoiding a flame war, and being very respectful/tolerant of others beliefs why was that enough religion? why doesn''t it belong here? the forum description says that this forum is for anything, not just programming. This isn''t a public school, or a gov''t website, is it? Why shouldn''t we discuss it here? I think it is very interesting to find out about the beliefs of people who share my interests. I don''t see any good reason why it should have been closed. -arsenius after three days without programming, life becomes meaningless

I would imagine that by you posting this, that you have not been around messageboards as long as I. There is one thing to remember about GDNet, and that is that it is a free service for you. If there is something that one of the moderators deems inappropriate for the GDNet board, then we have every right to do with the post as we please. Religion is never an easy topic to deal with, and although it always starts out rosy, given due time the posts will become more heated. Have you ever considered the thought that nearly all of the major wars fought throughout human history have been fought on the basis of religion?

I agree that you have a right to respond to posts however you please, but there was no flaming going on, at least that I saw (perhaps something was deleted).
It''s true that given time it would probably become a flame war, but, wouldn''t it have been better to allow it to progress until it did degrade, so that more legitimate posts could be made?

I disagree with your last comment, I think that many wars have been fought on a religious pretense but few have been legitimate religious wars. Mostly, they were because a some person or group wanted more power, and they needed a cause.

Besides, how can you compare an internet flame war, where it is unlikely that people''s feelings will even be hurt, to something like the millions (?) of Jews killed in the hollocaust?

well, I don''t think he''s saying that starting a flame war is equal in magnitude to the holocaust. but if people are willing to fight wars and kill each other over religion in real life, why would they even be hesitant to start flame wars on message boards?
Yeah, arsenius, you totally missed the point.

Well Now,

I think he was well within the limits
to close the thread. And as he said it
doesn''t really belong here. Maybe on
announcments where it states that spamming
is alright. But still it''s nothing to do with
Game Dev. Just my opinion but I think you''re
taking this a little to far arsenius.

Mega Moh Mine!!
It''s happening again! This one is gonna erupt into another flame war! and Kevin would be in it too! Let''s chill. Let''s not let this get out of hand, and it will if something isn''t done. Moderators and Staff have to power to run what they will, and they do, and they do it realy well too! This board is proof of how well they run it. Let''s let them do their job, and we do ours.
Yeah I think the thread would have turned into a flame war but until it did I think it should have been kept going. It''s not often we get to hear about such a diverse range of views on religeon and I thought it was a shame that it had to end so soon.

the previous christian thread also don´t was a flame war util the 5th page(i think that was 9+ page), but after that...
"Everything works out in the end, if it doesn't then it is not the end"
I didn''t mean to make it sound like it was that big of a deal, I was just curious why it was closed. I''m a very forward person

and I did miss the point, sorry

but no one has ventured to answer the point of why religion doesn''t belong here, at least not well. I know this is a game programming site, but hey, why not talk about it if people are interested?

let''s stop this from becoming a flame war, someone answer my last question well, and then let''s close this thread, cause it will have outlived it''s usefulness

I really enjoy talking/learning about religion/beliefs btw, that is why this bothered me. (please don''t tell me to find a religious message board, it''s only fun when it comes up)
