Sig Tool 2.0?

Due to the great response to my signature tool, I think I'll add some major improvements to it. Right now here are the ones I'm thinking of: -Ability to save to/load from a .SIG file -Multi-line signatures -Persistent data (stuff you entered last time shows up when you open it) -"Correct" gradient calculations that take character width into account -More formatting options (font, size, hover-underlines like GameDev's links) So, would you use any of these? Are there any more things I should add? Or do you think it "ain't broke", so I shouldn't fix it? Also, am I annoying the GDNet staff by spawning these bold, bright, loadtime-consuming signatures? Thanks in advance, Scott lntakitopi@aol.com - http://www.geocities.com/guanajam Edited by - SHilbert on 7/6/00 3:55:39 PM

I haven't even tried your first one yet, but I'm going to download it at home and give it a try. Otherwise, I'd say, get rid of the SPANS, they aren't even necessary.

By the way, can you recreate my sig using your tool for me and post the stuff here so I can compare it to my current implementation?

Do you know why my '< >' stuff keeps getting changed to '[ ]' for my bolds?

Here goes nothing...

It's just "the messageboard", as usual. Is it causing any problems?

SonicSilicon had an idea for a "character snap", letting the gradient nodes automatically snap between characters. It's probably going to get into v2.0. Any thoughts?

Whoah, I guess the board doesn't like nested quote tags.
Anyway, the solution to the smiley-problem is to type <img src="smile.gif" align="middle"> instead of using the UBB smiley.
See? -->

Here's a test of the new sig. Hope it works.

By the way, why are there soo many spaces between the letters and the /b's and then also between then ] and the /font's.

OUCH. Forgot to save my profile. But what happened there with the colors? Maybe it needs double quotes? I'll try above.

Double quotes worked for the colors then.

Sorry for turning this into my private test area. I'll delete some of the posts in a minute.
Here's one last test to see what's wrong with those bold comments.

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah!!! Now this thread can get un-cluttered again
BTW, I got rid of the SPAN tags for version 1.2.

So, the new possible feature list is looking like this:
  • Ability to save to/load from a .SIG file
  • Multi-line signatures (Might not work too well with character snap)
  • Persistent data (stuff you entered last time shows up when you open it) - should be easy to do if .SIG support is already done
  • "Correct" gradient calculations that take character width into account
  • More formatting options (font, size, hover-underlines like GameDev's links)
  • Snap-to-character function
  • Character color grouping: two or three characters with a close color could be put in one FONT tag instead of two, thus decreasing the sig's size and load time.

Any thoughts?

It would be very helpful if someone on the GDNet staff could explain what gets changed by the messageboard & what doesn't so the tool could be made more efficient & useful for this board.

Definitly do the multiline sigs...it was a kind of a pain to do my sig. I did it one line at a time and then copied it.

I''m afraid it might cause trouble with the character snapping. If anyone knows how to design an interface for such a thing, please enlighten me!
