Look at what they are doing to you!
Doesn''t anyone get sick and tired of DirectX? I''ve been using it for quite a long time now, and it never ceases to amaze me as every day I find something new to complain about. Why haven''t Microsoft implemented the alpha caps into DirectDraw for example? (like they said they would from the start). It must be very easy, as pixel blending functions exists on EVERY SINGLE 3D accelerated card as part of foundation of the rendering architecture!
Further more, DirectX is in no way streamlined. Yes, DirectDraw is fun when you''re a kid, and its easy to set up, but we need real power!
Does anyone here use OpenGl or Glide 2/3 as there API of preference? Because they are both very powerful and very light-weight (comparitively).
Comments on this subject anyone...
Hmm... but what are we supposed to do about controller input and SFX? You can''t just forget all of DirectX.

Don''t drop ALL of DirectX - just the DirectDraw and 3D APIs. Obviously we need DInput and Sound. I was just wondering if anyone does this on a regular basis?
DirectDraw and Direct3D aren't that bad. Once you get used to them, they're actually quite nice.
But if you want to use OpenGL, by all means go for it. It's a great API.

DUDE! You gotta try D3D. It''s soo much more fun than Direct Draw. (no joke)

No way! DX is much more fun!
(I''m just kidding though.)

I only use DirectDraw to get a pointer to the videomemory, the rest is done in assembler.
